We are looking for a Senior Data Scientist with a focus on machine learning and statistical methods to change the way we make and operate our world-class games. This person will design, implement and own end-to-end production on machine learning systems in a cloud environment. If you are someone who wants to foster a data-driven culture, focus on statistical testing and rigour, mentor junior team members, and work cross-functionally in a fast-paced and exciting industry, this may be the role for you
This role is a full-time, on-site position based 5 days a week at our Downtown Vancouver studio. In this role, you can expect to be responsible for:
  • Opportunity Identification and value assessment:
  • Help to identify opportunities for machine learning and automated data-driven services in our products.
  • Assess potential value, risks and costs of new solutions
  • Architect solutions derived from functional and non functional requirements

  • Data Extraction and Analysis:
  • Using a mastery of SQL, Query our petabyte-scale data warehouse to extract and work with data
  • Conduct exploratory data analysis, statistical testing, and feature engineering
  • Work with data engineers to form requirements for data pipelines and feature stores
  • Review work from other team members to assess for accuracy and completeness 

  • Machine Learning System Ownership:
  • Develop and own end-to-end machine learning system(s) 
  • Work with engineers to deploy models in a cloud environment (batch/real-time predictions, microservices, and monitoring).
  • Assist junior members of the team with additional data systems
  • Be a recognised expert in specific areas of machine learning within the business

  • Statistical testing and experimental design:
  • Work with stakeholders to design experiments and analyse results 
  • Contribute to our Bayesian A/B testing platform 
  • Communicate technical results clearly to non-technical audiences
  • Promote a statistically driven approach to problem solving within the company

  • Communication and Collaboration:
  • Communicate project goals, progress, and outcomes with production, design, and engineering teams.
  • Excellent presentational and data visualization skills
  • Work closely with senior members of stakeholder teams to understand their future requirements
To be successful in this role, your background includes:
  • Master's Degree in a STEM discipline, preferably thesis-based
  • 4+ years of industry experience in data science, preferably in large scale client-facing software/web/application companies
  • Expert level Python programming skills 
  • Deep knowledge of machine learning libraries such as scikit-learn and PyTorch
  • Experience deploying machine learning models into production
  • Expert SQL skills and appreciation for data engineering principles
  • Strong data visualization skills, preferably with Tableau
  • Comfortable in cloud environments, particularly GCP and databricks
  • Can drive projects independently, maneuver through imperfect data or experimentation, and pivot goals or targets with ease
  • Ability to mentor and guide junior team members
  • Communicates in a clear, concise, and professional manner with staff at all levels; justifies decisions, and achieves peer consent

$128,000 - $168,000 a year The typical hiring range listed above is specific to candidates located in Vancouver. The salary will be determined based on your knowledge, skills and competencies, and you'll have room to grow after you join
