Know our team

Nutrition International's Strategy & Governance team supports the President & CEO of Nutrition International. It leads key corporate planning exercises, facilitates strategy development, and leads Special Projects. The team works closely with the broader Senior Executive Team and with regional and country offices. The Strategy and Governance team also supports the President's engagements with Nutrition International's global Board of Directors. Currently, Nutrition International is seeking applications for an Analyst, Strategy & Governance to be based in Ottawa, Canada, working hybrid 2 days/week in-office.

About you

You are someone with Bachelor's degree in Public Policy, Business, Development Studies or a related field. Master's degree will be an asset. You have 4 to 5 years of experience in business analysis, strategy consulting, project management or a similar role. You have prior experience working with and or developing analytical tools and models to support decision making, planning and related processes. Prior experience working with not-for-profit and/or development organizations (either as an employee or in an external consultant capacity) will be an asset.

You have the ability to produce Excel-based models/tools for quantitative analysis, and strong knowledge of PowerPoint to produce compelling presentations and slide decks. You have excellent analytical skills, including the ability to analyze complex problems into constituent parts and topics that can be addressed in a MECE manner to arrive at creative solutions. You have excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex topics in a simple, crisp, and clear manner.

Fluency in English is required.

About the role

In this role, you will be:

Strategy Development


• Support development and review of NI and portfolio-level strategies by participating in project initiation/inception planning, and supporting/leading selected workstreams.


• Support planning and implementation of workshops, brainstorming sessions, focused group discussions, etc., to develop content, curate ideas, and/or generate alignment amongst cross-unit participants.


• Support the development of strategy presentations and pre-read decks for an executive-level audience, under the guidance of the Senior Manager and in consultation with the Director.

Strategy Implementation and Corporate Planning


• Support the development and enhancement of key artifacts of the corporate planning process, such as planning tools (primarily but not limited to MS Excel-based tools), PowerPoint presentations, guidance documents, etc.


• Analyze planning data (including synthesizing with financial and budgeting data) to extract insightful information that supports decision-making at the Executive and Leadership group levels, e.g. priority areas, gaps in cross-unit plans, alignment with corporate objectives, etc.


• Support enhancements to processes at the intersection of strategic, financial, and operational planning, such as grant planning, resource/LoE planning, etc.


• Identify and recommend enhancements to Front Office work planning, including enhancements to artifacts as work plan templates, project trackers, etc., and to processes, while treating these enhancements as test cases for roll-out to other units.


• Develop and update documents relating to processes, work plans, timelines, and deliverables for projects and initiatives. Track progress on work plans and deliverables, providing reminders and flagging issues/delays as needed, including by establishing systems/tools to do so.

Cross Team Support


• Work with the Director on supporting cross-cutting projects (e.g. Governance, Leadership meetings etc.).


• Support the completion of CEO Support and Special projects as directed by the Director, including leading specific special projects or providing surge support for special projects led by other colleagues.

Research and Analysis


• Lead research and analysis in support of strategy projects, including framing research questions and developing initial hypotheses, conducting desk research and interviews (with internal and external experts) to answer research questions, organizing and analyzing findings (both qualitative and quantitative).


• Formulate first drafts of options and recommendations on key strategic and policy questions based on the research and analysis. Produce both detailed records of research findings (including detailed notes from interviews) as well as research summaries that are adapted to specific audiences.

Administration – Contracting & Budgeting


• Support in maintaining the Front Office team's SharePoint page, including organization of online repository of documents.


• Support with other administrative duties such as coordinating travel arrangements for senior management, event management, Board meetings, and workshop logistics, etc., as needed during surge periods.
