What This Job is About:
The Systems Administrator is a proactive member of the Technology team. The individual is accountable for overall IT infrastructure management, including all company devices/equipment and cloud platforms.
The Systems Administrator assists the Director of Technology with ongoing modernization initiatives and efforts related to the association's cloud and on-premise environments, ongoing cybersecurity initiatives, various cloud solutions, communication platforms, infrastructure, and application management, network analysis/maintenance, mobile device management and security, and disaster/business continuity planning.
This role connects modern technology with internal staff and various external partners. Additionally, the role provides on-site and remote technical support for all hardware, software, AV systems, cloud platforms, and peripherals. Candidates should be local to the Northern Virginia area.
Key Responsibilities: Administer and support the Microsoft 365 ecosystem, including Azure, SharePoint, Exchange, Teams, Defender, OneDrive, and related security tools. Manage Microsoft cloud and server environments, including Active Directory, virtual servers, group policies, server security, DNS, DHCP, file/print services, terminal services, and SQL database administration. Oversee network and infrastructure components such as switches, firewalls, VPN appliances, wireless infrastructure, storage devices, and other security systems. Provide on-site and remote technical support for hardware, software, AV systems, cloud platforms, and peripherals. Perform root cause analysis and resolve complex technical issues. Manage IT components of employee onboarding and offboarding, including IT orientation. Implement, enforce, and audit cybersecurity procedures and information security policies. Conduct periodic audits of system configurations and user accounts. Administer VoIP phone systems and manage AV infrastructure, including support for online meetings and related documentation. Maintain accurate hardware and software inventories. Identify, recommend, and help implement technology solutions to improve operational efficiency and digital capabilities. Collaborate with the Director of Technology on IT roadmaps, documentation, and strategic initiatives, with an emphasis on scalability and future-proofing. Take accountability for overall technology infrastructure, including cloud and on-premise environments, internet connectivity, and backup systems. Review IT service analytics to identify trends, address recurring issues, and improve user experience. Advise staff on how technology solutions can best support their goals. Support disaster recovery and business continuity planning, including oversight of data backup platforms and strategies. Participate in occasional on-call responsibilities. Education & Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field. Minimum of 7 years of experience in Information Technology, including at least 5 years in a systems administrator or engineer role. Demonstrated experience implementing, securing, and optimizing cloud, SaaS, and hybrid infrastructure environments. Proven ability to partner effectively with internal staff and external vendors, consultants, and service providers. Strong proficiency with Microsoft 365, Azure Active Directory, enterprise security solutions, network infrastructure, cloud phone systems, and AV platforms. Industry certifications (Microsoft, Cisco/Network, Security, or similar) are a plus. Experience with association management systems (AMS), particularly Fonteva/Salesforce, is a plus. Skills & Competencies:
Strong knowledge of cybersecurity, risk management, and information assurance in cloud-based environments. Ability to understand and manage complex technical systems while keeping business needs front and center. Awareness of emerging technologies and practical applications. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to varying levels of technical expertise. Customer-focused approach with a commitment to high-quality service.
