Join Coinbase's Stablecoin Payments team to help create the future of global finance. We are developing the core infrastructure for stablecoin-based payments to facilitate fast, secure, and scalable money movements worldwide. As a Senior Software Engineer, you'll design and scale systems that empower deposits, withdrawals, and third-party payments across various Coinbase products, including Retail, Exchange, Prime, and Custody. You will lead high-impact projects, integrate new blockchains, and collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to deliver stablecoin utilities to businesses of all sizes. Your responsibilities will include: Designing, building, and maintaining backend systems that facilitate stablecoin payments, deposits, and withdrawals. Serving as the Directly Responsible Individual (DRI) for critical projects, driving them from design to production with accountability. Collaborating with cross-functional teams—such as product, design, infrastructure, and compliance—to deliver robust, scalable solutions. Working closely with teams across Coinbase (e.g., CDP Payments API, Onramp APIs, CoinBiz) to integrate stablecoin features into our primary products. Helping to build internal and external APIs that enable businesses and partners to utilize stablecoin transactions seamlessly. Identifying and addressing performance, scalability, and reliability challenges within our systems. Mentoring junior engineers and contributing to a strong, inclusive, and high-performing engineering culture. Keeping abreast of the evolving crypto landscape and identifying opportunities for enhancement, adoption, and innovation in stablecoin infrastructure. What we seek in you: A minimum of 5 years in software engineering. A proven track record in building and maintaining large-scale backend systems, preferably in fintech, payments, or crypto sectors. Strong proficiency in backend technologies such as Go, Java, or similar, alongside expertise in cloud infrastructures like AWS or GCP. A deep understanding of distributed systems, APIs, and system architecture. Experience with crypto or blockchain technologies is advantageous but not mandatory. A product-focused engineering mindset, valuing the rationale behind your creations. A strong ownership mindset, capable of driving projects from inception to execution as a DRI. A collaborative spirit with the ability to work cross-functionally across product, design, and engineering teams. A passion for building foundational technology in a rapidly evolving, impactful sector. Preferred qualifications: Prior experience working with stablecoins, decentralized finance (DeFi) protocols, or on-chain payment systems. Familiarity with smart contract platforms such as Ethereum, Solana, or Base, along with related developer tools. Contributions to open-source crypto or blockchain projects. Experience creating multi-chain or cross-chain applications. Understanding regulatory or compliance aspects associated with crypto payments. An interest in or experience with tokenomics, financial primitives, or digital asset infrastructures. Previous experience in startup or hyper-growth environments where adaptability was key. Pay Transparency Notice: The target annual salary for this role varies based on work location and ranges from $186,005 to $218,900 USD.
