THE POSITION

The Maintenance Engineer is responsible for the general upkeep and repair of both the hotel and residence areas within our luxury property. The ideal candidate is a dependable, self-motivated individual with a strong sense of professional customer service, excellent time management, and clear communication skills. A commitment to completing tasks efficiently and professionally is essential, as minimizing guest disruption is a top priority. The Maintenance Engineer is expected to help ensure the facility is well-maintained and that all guests experience the highest standard of service.

This position reports directly to the Director of Operations and collaborates regularly with other Maintenance Engineers. The role may also involve task assignments from other department managers such as the Director of Housekeeping, and responding to maintenance requests from various departments, team members, or guests.

This is an on-site , part-time role at the SoHo Hotel Toronto, located at 318 Wellington Street West, Toronto, Ontario.

DUTIES &
RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Operate and execute preventative maintenance, trouble shooting and
    repairs to building, HVAC, plumbing, boilers, mechanical systems and responding
    to hotel guest complaints.
  • Ensure a comfortable atmosphere in all areas by performing preventive
    maintenance.
  • Complete daily operating records and log books.
  • Complete assigned work orders and preventative maintenance record
    logs.
  • Respond to the needs of hotel guests as dispatched. This includes
    performing preventive maintenance or repair requests on all in-house systems
    and equipment such as: telephones, TV's, locks, plumbing, HVAC and electrical
    equipment to ensure their effective operation.·
  • Maintain a high-quality physical appearance of the hotel by
    performing cosmetic repairs to ceilings, walls, tiles, carpets, washrooms,
    windows, floors, window coverings and furniture including painting, cleaning,
    and basic carpentry duties.
  • Maintain effective lighting by checking fuses and circuitry and
    replacing bulbs and ballasts in all areas of the Hotel, inside and out.
  • Assist other trades people and perform other duties as assigned.
  • Receive and distribute materials/supplies and assist in maintaining
    accurate inventories. This includes data collection and entry.
  • Respond in a courteous manner to guest questions, complaints and/or
    compliments to ensure guest satisfaction.
  • Complete all required health and safety training, and be part of the
    company's health and safety committee for inspections and meetings.
  • Serve as a resource for professional health and safety tips, and be a role
    model in "doing-your-job-safely".
  • Assist the Director of Operations and other department managers with
    any projects as needed.
  • Follow all fire, emergency and health safety programs and procedures
    in conformance with laws having jurisdiction.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
  • QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum 2–3 years of experience in maintenance, engineering, or a related technical field (e.g., HVAC, plumbing, painting, drywall).
  • Prior experience in a hotel or residential/apartment setting is an asset.
  • Previous work in a service-oriented environment is an asset.
  • Must be resourceful in troubleshooting and capable of working independently with minimal supervision.
  • Weekend availability is mandatory. May also be requested to work evenings, holidays, or weekdays/weeknights depending on operational needs (with advance notice).
  • Physical Requirements

  • Able to lift/push/pull up to 35 pounds.
  • Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Comfortable performing physical and hands-on tasks as part of daily responsibilities.
  • Must comply with all health and safety regulations and hotel policies.
