The North American Intermediary CFO team delivers strategic analysis and management information to support business strategy, provide insights and support decision making.
The Manager, Finance, will primarily focus on broker support and fulfill the reporting requirements to the John Hancock (JH) Mutual Fund Board of Directors. This position will work closely with Distribution and will oversee all financial aspects related to our intermediary arrangements. The ideal candidate is highly motivated and capable of building effective working relationships with partners.
Position Responsibilities:
Conduct financial analysis and develop financial models to support existing and prospective financial arrangements with partner firms; recommend and influence actions by offering insights into opportunities, risks and challenges.
Own and develop the annual strategic plan for marketing support; review and update the monthly forecast to reflect changes in marketing support spend based on key inputs/drivers.
Track and process payments to intermediary firms in an accurate and timely manner; prepare accruals and work with the Accounting & Reporting team on monthly close processes.
Prepare monthly results package for stakeholders with commentary on actuals to plan/forecast; engage with collaborators to understand results and communicate gaps/opportunities.
Build and maintain strong working relationships with Distribution Operations and National Accounts teams.
Develop and maintain in depth understanding of the various arrangements with intermediary firms; develop ongoing evaluation of new and existing intermediary relationships.
Compile financial information and materials for the annual 15c mutual fund profitability review for the JH Mutual Funds Board; engage with partners across the organization to coordinate and facilitate the 15c process.
Prepare quarterly board disclosures related to intermediary payments through revenue sharing, service fees and territory support payments.
Provide oversight over 12b-1 reimbursement plans through monthly review and analysis; prepare and coordinate quarterly reporting to the Board.
Maintain strong controls over key internal processes.
Identify and implement operational improvement/automation opportunities.
Required Qualifications:
University degree in business/finance/accounting and professional accounting designation (CPA)
At least 5 years of experience in a finance role, preferably in the wealth and asset management industry
Strong customer focus with the ability to build relationships, engage and influence effectively.
Solid analytical skills particularly in presenting & summarizing financial information in a meaningful manner for collaborators and with high attention to detail.
Highly motivated and with a strong work ethic; Results oriented and takes the initiative to solve problems while exercising sound judgment.
Innovative problem solver who is comfortable leading and driving change.
Ability to work independently and thrive in a collaborative team environment.
Strong MS Excel and PowerPoint skills; Power BI knowledge and experience with automation tools, a plus
