About

Through the National Shipbuilding Strategy (NSS), the Government of Canada has embarked on one of the largest procurement projects since the Second World War. The NSS is a nation-building effort to create a sustainable Canadian shipbuilding industry, secure long-term job opportunities and build the next generation of ships for the Canadian Coast Guard and Royal Canadian Navy. Through its NSS–related work, Seaspan Shipyards is leading the redevelopment of our domestic shipbuilding industry on the West Coast and delivering on the promise of ships built in Canada, by Canadians.

The Intern, Project Engineering will support engineering activities from design through acceptance while assisting with pre-production and production support. This role provides hands-on exposure to project engineering, lifecycle management, and continuous improvement initiatives while working closely with the Project Engineering Team on Joint Support Ship programs.

Note: Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on-site based at 50 Pemberton Avenue, North Vancouver.

What you'll do
• Support engineering work from design to acceptance, ensuring cost and schedule requirements are met
• Apply project management practices to complete pre-production and production support activities
• Support the Project Engineering Team for Joint Support Ships by developing tools and processes
• Identify inefficiencies and collaborate with supervisors to implement solutions
• Drive timely closure of technical issues to meet engineering deliverables
• Apply engineering maturity management and lifecycle management aligned with project objectives

What you'll bring
• Enrollment in a relevant Engineering degree program
• Passion for shipbuilding and applying engineering concepts within a production environment
• Self-starter attitude with excellent communication skills
• Ability to apply engineering skills using analytical tools and methods
• Strong technical skills including reading and interpreting technical specifications and drawings
• Excellent digital literacy including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
• Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
• Good organizational skills

We require a full-time commitment Monday-Friday, 40 hours per week with an hourly rate of $26.00/hour.
