Who Are You?

The Senior Procurement Specialist is an experienced procurement professional responsible for leading strategic sourcing, supplier management, and purchasing execution in a manufacturing environment. This role ensures material availability, cost competitiveness, and supplier performance while supporting production schedules, quality standards, and business objectives. The Senior Procurement Specialist takes ownership of sourcing, negotiation, and supplier relationships, driving cost optimization and supply chain reliability.

This position requires a balance of strategic thinking and hands-on execution. The Senior Procurement Specialist works closely with Operations, Engineering, Finance, Planning, and Sales to align procurement activities with operational priorities, mitigate supply risks, and support continuous improvement initiatives. The role also provides leadership and guidance to a small procurement team, fostering accountability, collaboration, and consistent performance.

This position reports directly to the Vice President, Finance.

What Will You Do?

Strategic Sourcing & Cost Management

 
• Lead RFQ/RFP processes, supplier selection, and category sourcing strategies
 
• Negotiate pricing, contracts, payment terms, and long-term agreements
 
• Identify and deliver cost-reduction and value-improvement initiatives
 
• Conduct supplier, market, and commodity analysis to manage risk and volatility
 
• Collaborate with Finance and Operations to align procurement strategies with business goals

Supplier Management

 
• Manage relationships with key and strategic suppliers
 
• Monitor and report on supplier performance (cost, quality, delivery, service)
 
• Lead supplier reviews, corrective actions, and continuous improvement initiatives
 
• Develop alternate and secondary sourcing strategies to reduce supply risk
 
• Enforce contractual compliance and address non-conformance issues

Procurement Execution & Operations

 
• Oversee end-to-end procurement execution, from sourcing through delivery
 
• Ensure materials support production schedules and customer commitments
 
• Support Planning, Inventory, and Operations on supply-related matters
 
• Resolve supply, pricing, quality, and contract issues proactively
 
• Manage outplant and external services (machining, heat treatment, etc.)

Process, Systems & Compliance

 
• Ensure compliance with procurement policies, contracts, and regulations
 
• Drive continuous improvement in procurement processes and governance
 
• Maintain accurate data in ERP systems (Business Central)
 
• Support spend analysis, reporting, and KPI tracking
 
• Promote workplace safety across all procurement activities

Leadership & Strategic Contribution

 
• Lead centralization of procurement activities from the Edmonton site
 
• Collaborate cross-functionally with Operations, Finance, Engineering, Planning, Sales, and Manufacturing
 
• Prepare and present reports on supplier performance, costs, risks, and KPIs
 
• Investigate and resolve complex procurement issues
 
• Champion accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement
 
• Mentor and support team members to strengthen procurement capability

Sound Familiar?

  • Bachelor's degree in supply chain, Business, Finance, Engineering, or related field (preferred)
  • 3–5 years of procurement or strategic sourcing experience
  • Experience in manufacturing or industrial environments preferred
  • Demonstrated success in supplier negotiations and cost-reduction initiatives
  • Strong negotiation, commercial, and contract management skills
  • ERP experience (Business Central preferred)
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and strategic thinking skills
  • Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration abilities
  • Proven ability to manage risk and drive continuous improvement
