Schedule

Standard shift is 7:00 am - 3:00 pm daily, but may change based on needs of the department

Shift 

Monday to Friday, but weekends may be needed for other distribution duties

Position Summary:

The Material Handler is responsible for, but not limited to, receiving product and equipment, inventory control, and inventory reconciliations.  As well, stocking and rotation of area carts, the Stores area where applicable, and movement of goods throughout the hospital.  Effective and timely communications with any supplies issues to key stakeholders within the hospital.

This role will be responsible for verifying accuracy of shipments and receiving purchase orders in Meditech to ensure a smooth and efficient payment process for suppliers. The role will also be accountable for Stores inventory accuracy by performing regular cycle counts.

The physical requirements of this role are extensive and include constant walking of corridors, stairs, ramps, uneven surfaces, tight spaces, reaching, squatting, kneeling and pushing/lifting of moderate to heavy weights.  Exceptional dexterity is required. This role may require lifting up to 50 lbs. when required.  The working hours are day shifts and if needed, weekends including statutory holidays.

This position contributes to ensuring there is a safe and positive environment for patients, staff and visitors.  Posted hours do not constitute a guarantee that shifts will not be subject to change.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Successful completion of Secondary School required
  • Experience with operation of power pallet truck including certification required
  • Excellent math skills and experience working with numbers required
  • College/University level Supply Chain/Logistics related course completions preferred
  • Keyboard skills are essential
  • Must have excellent communication skills; both verbal and written
  • Must have excellent organizational, interpersonal and time management skills
  • Must have excellent problem solving skills partnered with an attention to detail
  • Team player and willing to upgrade skills and abilities as job dictates
  • Must have good conflict resolution skills
  • Must be able to meet schedules and deadlines with minimal supervision
  • Demonstrated ability of excellent attendance on a regular basis is required
  • Minimum of 3-5 years' related experience with knowledge of medical/surgical supplies, inventory systems, hospital geography, distribution of supplies, inventory control practices as well as Shipping/Receiving experience
  • Previous hospital experience with Meditech Materials Management module and handheld devices preferred
  • Must be physically able to lift up to 50 lbs. repetitively
  • Transport Dangerous Goods certification (TDG) required

Responsibilities and Duties

Performs the following duties in accordance with department policies, procedures and operations:

  • Responsible for maintaining adequate stock on units and stores area.
  • Surveys inventory items for areas of hospital and distribute supplies appropriately
  • Acts as a liaison person between Distribution and end user areas
  • Replenishes stock in all areas as required
  • Responds to requests in a professional and courteous manner
  • Responsible for handheld operations including uploads, downloads and battery maintenance
  • Responsible for order verifications and initiates order variance processes
  • Responsible for all shipping and receiving functions
  • All other duties as assigned
