Join Us as a Principal Engineer – Electrical Engineering (HV)

Location: Barrow-in-Furness / Hybrid (3 days on-site)

Salary: £45,628 – £61,500 (Based on skills and experience)

Your Mission:

As a Principal Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of electrical engineering at our site. Your expertise will guide the development of standards and processes that ensure our equipment, systems, and facilities operate at the highest level of safety and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Define site standards, processes, and technical requirements for electrical engineering.
  • Conduct thorough reviews and assessments of design proposals to ensure compliance with established standards.
  • Produce detailed technical documentation and reports.
  • Provide input on problem-solving and engineering issues related to electrical systems.
  • Act as the primary contact for High Voltage standards concerning site electrical systems.
  • Lead improvements in policies, equipment, and capabilities while ensuring compliance with relevant regulations.
Your Skills and Experience:
  • Proven experience as an electrical engineer with a focus on High Voltage (11kV) systems.
  • Background in an industrial engineering environment, familiar with commercial standards.
  • Degree in electrical engineering or equivalent (e.g., HND with relevant experience).
  • Registered with an engineering professional institute, with the potential to achieve chartered status.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in an engineering context, with knowledge of British standards.
  • Strong engineering background with transferable skills, such as assurance.
  • Experience in a Nuclear Environment or similar highly regulated industry is a plus.

About the Site Specialist Engineering (SSE) Team:

The SSE Electrical team is dedicated to providing expert support in establishing electrical standards and requirements. You will have the opportunity to:

  • Engage with various electrical disciplines, including LV, HV, C&I, and Communications.
  • Problem-solve and innovate daily, contributing to the development of new facilities.
  • Drive improvements in existing systems, structures, and components.
