Position Overview

As a Legal Oversight Counsel with FBC, you will provide professional legal review and oversight for FBC's legal education initiatives. This role is responsible for ensuring that all legal education content, workshop materials, and digital resources are legally accurate, current, and compliant with Ontario law, while remaining accessible and culturally responsive for Black youth.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Reviewing and approving all legal education materials, research outputs, and workshop content to ensure legal accuracy, consistency, and compliance with Ontario law.

  • Providing legal oversight for the development of a bilingual "Know Your Rights" section of FBC's Black Pulse platform, including review of content related to criminal justice, access to justice, and youth rights.

  • Providing legal supervision and guidance to program staff, consultants, and external facilitators delivering legal education workshops.

  • Overseeing the legal integrity of six in-person workshops delivered through partner programs, ensuring alignment with project objectives and funder requirements.

  • Coordinating with external legal consultants, community partners, and internal teams to ensure legal messaging is accurate and appropriately framed.

  • Supporting monitoring, evaluation, and reporting activities in accordance with Law Foundation of Ontario requirements.

Project Details

FBC is committed to empowering Black youth in Ontario by expanding access to accurate, practical, and culturally grounded legal information. As part of The Bridge Project – Phase 2, funded by the Law Foundation of Ontario, FBC is implementing a legal education initiative that integrates rights-based learning into its youth programming and digital platforms.

This phase focuses on:

  • The development and legal review of a bilingual "Know Your Rights" section on the Black Pulse platform; and

  • The legally supervised delivery of in-person legal education workshops through SSLP, YESS, and the Newcomers Program.

The project aims to increase legal literacy, strengthen youth capacity to navigate the justice system, and ensure access to accurate, evidence-based legal information for Black youth across Ontario.


Requirements Skills and Qualifications
  • Must be a lawyer licensed and in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario.
    Strong knowledge of Ontario law, particularly in areas related to criminal justice, youth rights, and access to justice.

  • Demonstrated experience reviewing and supervising legal education content or public legal information.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex legal concepts into plain-language guidance.

  • Strong organizational and oversight skills, with experience coordinating across legal, programmatic, and community stakeholders.
    Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary and community-centered environment.

Bilingualism (English/French) is an asset but not required.
