The Opportunity
Your Impact Starts Here — this is your chance to join a high‑performing Ground Engineering & Materials team in one of WSP's most strategically important northern hubs. Based in our Prince George, BC office and laboratory, you'll support critical projects across British Columbia and the Yukon — from major infrastructure upgrades to renewable resource development and northern community initiatives.
As a Junior Materials Technician, you'll apply your growing expertise across both field and lab environments, supported by experienced technicians, technologists, and engineers who will help you build a meaningful and lasting career. WSP supports relocation and accommodation for candidates looking to make Prince George their new home.
Your Impact
In this role, you will:
- Lead and deliver field materials testing assignments, including soil and concrete testing for local and regional projects across BC and the Yukon.
- Perform laboratory testing in our Prince George facility, following established soil and concrete testing standards and accurately reporting results.
- Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams to support geotechnical engineering programs and ensure high‑quality technical output.
- Apply your technical judgment to support safe, efficient testing practices in both remote and urban environments.
- Contribute to a culture of safety, ensuring strong adherence to WSP and client health & safety procedures.
- Bring curiosity and initiative, helping project teams deliver reliable data and client‑focused service across a wide range of northern project types.
The Skills That Set You Apart
You will thrive here if you bring:
- A diploma or degree in Civil Engineering Technology and a desire to build your expertise through hands‑on field and lab experience.
- Confidence working in remote northern environments, including travel for project assignments.
- Clear and practical communication skills, with the ability to document results and coordinate effectively on site and in the lab.
- A valid Canadian driver's license and comfort working in fast‑paced project conditions.
- Any past experience in materials testing (field or laboratory), construction, or geotechnical environments — whether professional or as a student intern.
- Eligibility for CTech / AScT, or interest in pursuing certification as your career develops.
- CCIL concrete (Cat 0) and CCIL aggregates (Type C/D) certification is an asset.
