Position Overview
The GIS Analyst – Urban Forestry, LiDAR, UAS & AI supports ArborPro's urban forestry, sustainability, and planning initiatives through advanced geospatial analysis and remote sensing workflows. This role applies GIS, LiDAR, UAS (drone) data, and machine learning / AI techniques to analyze, model, and visualize urban tree canopy and related environmental datasets.
Success in this role will include:
Delivering high-quality urban tree canopy and land cover analyses
Applying LiDAR, UAS, and AI-driven methods to improve data accuracy and efficiency
Producing clear, defensible maps, models, and technical deliverables
Supporting stakeholders with reliable geospatial tools and analysis
Key Responsibilities
Urban Forestry & Geospatial Analysis
Conduct urban tree canopy (UTC) and land cover assessments
Process and analyze LiDAR, aerial, satellite, and UAS imagery
Perform change detection, feature extraction, and canopy classification
Advanced Analytics & Technology
Apply machine learning and AI techniques to imagery and LiDAR datasets
Evaluate model performance and conduct validation and accuracy assessments
Support continuous improvement of analytical workflows and methodologies
UAS & Field Operations
Operate UAS/drones for geospatial data collection in compliance with FAA regulations
Perform fieldwork as required to support data collection and verification
Data Management & Visualization
Develop maps, dashboards, web GIS applications, and technical reports
Manage and maintain spatial databases and geospatial datasets
Support internal teams and external stakeholders with GIS tools and data
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in GIS, Geography, Environmental Science, Urban Forestry, Data Science, or a related field
Master's degree preferred
Proficiency with ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Enterprise
Experience with LiDAR, remote sensing, and urban tree canopy analysis
Proficiency in Python and geospatial machine learning / AI workflows
FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate or ability to obtain
Strong analytical, communication, and organizational skills
Ability to travel and perform fieldwork as required
Preferred Experience
Deep learning or machine learning applied to imagery or LiDAR classification
Web GIS development, dashboards, and spatial databases (SQL)
Experience with photogrammetry and drone mapping software
