Applications Engineer – Industrial Vision & AI Deployment

San Francisco Bay Area / Palo Alto, CA

~50% Overnight Travel

About the Opportunity

A rapidly growing
AI + computer-vision scale-up
is transforming how enterprises detect defects, events, and actions within production environments, enabling manufacturers to automate visual inspection, improve yield, reduce waste, and scale intelligence across factory floors.

Their platform empowers customers to deploy visual AI systems
without heavy engineering lift
, integrating directly with
existing industrial cameras, sensors, conveyors, robots, and manufacturing infrastructure
.

As they expand adoption across global production sites, they are seeking a
hands-on Applications Engineer
to lead
on-site system integration, camera installation, deployment, and customer success
.

About the Role

You'll be the bridge between cutting-edge visual AI technology and real-world factory execution and working directly with customers from
pre-sales technical scoping through deployment and field success
.

In this role you will:

  • Lead
    on-site installation, calibration, and commissioning
of industrial cameras and AI-driven visual inspection systems
  • Integrate software with
customer cameras, sensors, networks, robots, and mechanical equipment
  • Validate image quality, run structured test plans, and ensure systems perform reliably in production
  • Troubleshoot hardware & imaging issues directly in the field
  • Partner with machine learning teams to
deploy, tune, and test deep-learning-based vision models
  • Be a technical advisor during pre-sales — product demos, requirement scoping, integration feasibility
  • Deliver customer onboarding, training, and ongoing support

Preferred Experience/Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Computer Vision, Robotics) or related field
  • Hands-on experience with
camera hardware, imaging systems, or industrial deployments
  • Strong mechanical aptitude & comfort working on-site in real-world factory conditions
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently
  • Customer-facing communication skills and ability to translate technical concepts into solutions
  • Willingness to travel ~50% overnight to customer facilities
  • Exposure to computer vision, deep learning, or image processing
  • Prior experience integrating automation, AI, or factory-floor systems
  • Experience supporting both
    pre-sale and post-sale
    technical customer engagements
  • Familiarity with no-code / low-code AI tools or machine learning deployment workflows

If you're excited by
hands-on engineering mixed with field deployment
, love being the
face of cutting-edge tech
, and want your work to
directly impact global manufacturers,
this role puts you at the center of real-world AI adoption.

You'll work across
mechanical integration, imaging, deep learning, deployment, and customer success
, building a career in one of the fastest-growing segments in automation.
