Construction Supervisor

About
Supervise and coordinate construction and renovation of new and existing City facilities and parks including concrete, irrigation and landscaping within the Parks & Recreation Department; coordinate assigned activities with other divisions, outside agencies and the general public and provide highly responsible and complex staff assistance to higher level supervisory or management staff.

Minimum Education, Experience And Additional RequirementsEducation and experience directly related to the minimum requirements below may be interchangeable on a year for year basis.
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Civil Engineering or Landscape Architecture; and
Four (4) years of construction experience; and
To include two (2) years of supervisory experience.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Possession of a valid New Mexico Driver's License or the ability to obtain by date of hire.
Possession of a City Operator's Permit (COP) within 6 months from date of hire
Possession of a Plumbing - Lawn sprinklers (MS06) license preferred.
Possession of a contractor (GB98) license preferred.
- Operational characteristics, services and activities of a construction program
- Modern and complex principles and practices of building and construction activities
- Complex irrigation systems
- Principles of municipal budget preparation and control and purchasing rules and regulations
- Principles of supervision, training and performance evaluation
- Occupational hazards and standard safety precautions
- Pertinent Federal, State and local laws, codes and regulations
- Computers including spreadsheets and word processing
- Supervise, direct and coordinate the work of multiple construction crews (irrigation, landscaping and construction)
- Interpret and explain City construction policies and procedures
- Read and interpret construction plans and specifications
- Conduct frequent inspections of facilities under construction
- Ensure compliance with applicable construction rules and regulations
- Prepare clear and concise reports
- Communicate clearly and concisely
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work including a variety of City and other government officials, community groups, and the general public
- Perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation
