General Statement of Duties

Educates staff on the appropriate use of medical equipment and infection prevention and provides any mandated training programs.

Qualifications

Experience and Education:

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and five (5) years of experience, including two (2) years in a skilled nursing facility, convalescent or nursing home, hospital or similar healthcare setting and one (1) year in a teaching, supervisory, or leadership role.

Active Connecticut RN license

Qualifications:

Demonstrated ability to apply local, state and federal regulations governing resident care in a skilled nursing facility.

Proven ability to deliver effective adult education programs and motivate staff.

Proficiency in the operation of a personal computer and the use of Electronic Medical Record auditing software.

Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

Proven ability to collect, organize, coordinate and utilize extensive data compilations.

Demonstrated ability to review, interpret, and apply current laws, regulations, and accreditation standards to ensure standards of care are consistently met.

Demonstrated proficiency in the use of all patient care equipment and skilled in training nursing staff in its proper application.

Proven ability to deal tactfully and courteously with residents, families, colleagues, and the public.

Examination: 100% Training & Experience Assessment
The examination to determine a candidate's eligibility for the position will be a Training and Experience Assessment. This type of examination requires that you completely fill out the application, adding pages for additional relevant information where needed, and attaching any documentation of certificates, degrees, other significant documents, etc. A candidate's eligibility to be interviewed will be based solely on material submitted at the time of application. Once the Eligibility List is prepared no further information may be submitted and no adjustments will be made.

Reports to: Deputy and Director of Nursing

Duties and Responsibilities:

Identifies nursing staff educational needs and designs in-service training to address those needs.

Assesses the effectiveness of educational programs through observation and competency assessments to ensure learning objectives are met.

Develops and conducts orientation program for all new hires.

Ensures all nursing personnel maintain required certifications in accordance with state and federal regulations.

Monitors and verifies that Certified Nursing Assistants complete the required in-service education hours needed to maintain certification.

Plans, schedules and conducts intravenous (IV) therapy courses for nursing staff.

Plans, schedules and conducts training on pain management, oral health and dementia care, in accordance with state requirements.

Provides Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) training to meet standards of care.

Serves on the Continuous Quality Improvement Committee.

Performs other related duties as required.

Supports Town policies and philosophies.

Supplemental Information

All positions may be subject to an interview process. The Town reserves the right to limit the number of qualified candidates who will be invited to participate in the examination, or any part thereof.

All outside candidates will be required to undertake and successfully pass a pre-employment medical examination, which includes a substance abuse test that includes testing for THC (the psychoactive ingredient in marijuana), given at the Town's expense prior to employment if conditionally offered a part time, full time or safety sensitive position.

The Town of Greenwich has implemented a policy of background investigations for all full and part time positions prior to hiring as part of the reference checking procedures for outside candidates. The investigation will only be conducted as the last step prior to an offer. Refusal to sign the release form will terminate the candidate's further consideration.
