Job Summary
The Network Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, and supporting both on-premises and Azure-based network infrastructure with minimal supervision. This role works across a broad range of technologies, including firewalls, routers, switches, wireless access points, wireless bridges, and SD-WAN appliances. This is a hands-on position that spans the full lifecycle of network systems-design, documentation, configuration, deployment, maintenance, and security. The Network Engineer plays a key role in proactive capacity planning, performance optimization, monitoring, and troubleshooting to ensure reliable and secure network operations. The role requires regular travel to remote locations across the United States to deploy and support network infrastructure. You will also collaborate closely with Internet Service Providers (ISPs), internal project managers, and third-party vendors to coordinate installations, resolve service issues, and ensure successful project delivery.
Career Progression
This role offers a structured career progression path: • Network Engineer I - Entry-level role focused on building foundational skills and experience. • Network Engineer II - Intermediate role requiring at least three years of experience and the ability to work independently on complex issues. • Senior Network Engineer - Advanced role requiring six or more years of experience, deep technical expertise, and leadership of complex initiatives. This progression provides a clear roadmap for professional growth, increasing responsibility, and technical leadership.
Key Responsibilities
• Install, configure, manage, and troubleshoot network infrastructure including switches, routers, firewalls, VOIP, wireless, and SD-WAN solutions.
• Conduct network site assessments, traffic analysis, and capacity forecasting; develop design recommendations.
• Design, implement, and maintain business continuity and disaster recovery strategies.
• Plan and execute network upgrades and deployments including equipment selection, procurement coordination, and change management.
• Implement and maintain network security strategies, including cloud networking and next-generation firewall capabilities.
• Design and integrate network architectures, topologies, hardware, and protocols into cohesive solutions.
• Lead and support network security initiatives such as segmentation, monitoring, and threat detection.
• Develop, maintain, and document network standards, best practices, and procedures.
• Contribute to network architecture and engineering efforts aligned with business needs.
• Coordinate with ISPs, project managers, and contractors to ensure timely and successful project completion.
Minimum Job Requirements
Minimum requirements vary by level (Engineer I, II, Senior):
• 3-10+ years of network engineering experience.
• 3-10+ years managing Cisco/Meraki routing, switching, wireless, and SD-WAN.
• 3-10+ years managing firewalls and network security.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
• Industry certifications preferred but not required (CCNA, CCNP, CCIE, CCDA, etc.).
Preferred Experience
• Microsoft Azure networking design, implementation, and support.
• Network security operations including Palo Alto Firewalls and ClearPass.
• Strong understanding of security concepts such as IPSec, SSH, TACACS, firewall policies, and 802.1X.
• Experience with monitoring and performance tools such as SYSLOG, SNMP, SolarWinds, or similar platforms.
• Troubleshooting VOIP solutions; experience with Microsoft Teams Voice.
• Experience training and mentoring network technicians and administrators.
Job Expectations
• Ability to travel up to 75%.
• Ability to work in a hybrid environment (four days in office, one day remote), subject to company policy.
• Ability to work outside regular business hours for scheduled deployments as needed.
