About

Fortell is building breakthrough AI-powered hearing technology that redefines how people experience sound and connect with the world. Powered by custom silicon and advances in hearing science, our hearing aids help people hear, and live, with greater clarity and confidence.

We move fast, build with intention, and never lose sight of the people we're building for. We're bringing together exceptional minds in technology, science, design, and care–and we're just getting started. If you want to help shape a new era of hearing technology, we'd love to meet you.

We're building hearing technology that will tangibly improve the lives of millions. If you're the kind of researcher who obsesses over hard problems, ships, and cares about impact, this is for you. This is a high-intensity role. We often work long hours, especially during critical sprints and hardware milestones. If you're not excited by periods of sustained, demanding work, this won't be a fit.

What You'll Do

  • Develop & ship state-of-the-art models for real-time speech enhancement, source separation, dereverberation, acoustic scene understanding and personalization.
  • Push the frontier of on-device learning: distillation, quantization/low-bit inference, sparsity, neural architecture search, and hardware-aware training.
  • Own the full stack from Keras/TensorFlow research prototypes → C/C++ → integration with embedded/DSP pipelines (latency budgets in the single-digit ms, tight memory/power constraints).
  • Prototype quickly: get listening tests into user hands, iterate with clinicians.
  • Design rigorous evals beyond PESQ/STOI: A/B experiments with users. ML-based psychoacoustic metrics. Help conduct clinical trials.
  • Collaborate deeply with firmware, DSP, acoustics, audiology, and product to land research in production devices.

*You may be a good fit if *

  • You're a first‑principles problem solver who thrives working on projects with lots of ambiguity.
  • You thrive in high‑ownership environments and can sprint hard during critical phases.
  • You constantly generate ideas and consider creativity one of your core strengths.
  • You have a strong background in software engineering.

*Note on background *
We care about capability and impact more than narrow domain years. We welcome varied educational paths and track records that show direct evidence of ability.
