HR Generalist – Payroll & Recruiting
We are seeking a hands-on, detail-oriented HR Generalist – Payroll & Recruiting to manage ADP payroll and lead full-cycle recruiting for our family-owned, 100% on-site organization. This role is essential to accurate payroll processing and hiring skilled hourly and technical talent, including operators, mechanics, and maintenance staff. The ideal candidate combines strong payroll expertise with proactive, creative recruiting strategies to build a reliable, engaged workforce.
Key Responsibilities
Payroll Administration (Primary Focus)
- Process weekly payroll using ADP accurately and on schedule.
- Maintain and audit payroll data including timekeeping, overtime, deductions, and adjustments.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local payroll and labor regulations
- Partner with Finance to ensure timely payroll funding and salary disbursements.
- Respond promptly and confidentially to payroll inquiries and resolve discrepancies.
- Prepare payroll reports and documentation for audits and management review.
Recruiting, Talent Acquisition & Recruitment Marketing (Primary Focus)
- Lead full cycle recruiting for hourly and skilled trade positions including material processors, equipment operators, mechanics, and maintenance personnel .
- Develop and manage job postings across multiple platforms (Indeed, LinkedIn, industry boards, local trade schools, social media, etc.).
- Incorporate marketing and employer-branding strategies into recruiting efforts to attract qualified candidates.
- Create and manage recruitment materials such as job ads, hiring flyers, social media content, and local outreach campaigns.
- Build talent pipelines through community partnerships, referrals, job fairs, and networking.
- Screen resumes, conduct interviews, coordinate hiring decisions, and prepare offer letters.
- Partner with hiring managers to understand workforce needs and staffing timelines.
- Conduct new hire orientation and ensure a smooth, welcoming onboarding experience.
Onboarding & HR Administration
- Prepare and manage all onboarding documentation including offer letters, employment agreements, system access, and ID creation.
- Coordinate with departments to ensure new hires have tools, PPE, training, and access on their first day.
- Maintain accurate, confidential employee records (digital and physical).
- Schedule, background checks, motor vehicle, and drug testing.
- Update HRIS and employee databases regularly.
Employee Relations & Engagement
- Serve as a primary point of contact for employee questions related to payroll, benefits, and HR policies.
- Support employee engagement initiatives and recognition programs.
- Assist with performance reviews and HR policy implementation.
- Foster a respectful, team-oriented, and family-focused workplace culture.
Offboarding, Compliance & Reporting
- Manage offboarding processes including exit interviews, final pay, and clearances.
- Ensure proper documentation, return of company property, and system access removal.
- Maintain compliance with labor laws and company policies.
- Support internal and external audits as required.
Qualifications & Skills
- 3–5 years of HR Generalist experience with strong emphasis on ADP payroll and recruiting .
- Hands-on experience with ADP Workforce Now or similar ADP platforms .
- Proven experience recruiting hourly, skilled trade, or industrial roles (material processors, equipment operators, mechanics, maintenance).
- Knowledge of payroll, employment laws, and HR best practices.
- Strong organizational skills with high attention to detail.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving abilities.
- Proficiency in MS Office, HRIS, and applicant tracking systems.
- High level of integrity, discretion, and confidentiality.
