Position Overview
The Teacher Assistant plays a vital role in supporting classroom instruction, fostering a positive learning environment, and ensuring that students receive the individualized support they need to succeed. This role is ideal for someone passionate about education, eager to grow, and committed to serving the academic and social-emotional needs of students.
Key Responsibilities
Provide academic support to students individually or in small groups under the direction of the lead teacher
Assist in the implementation of lesson plans and classroom activities
Supervise students during transitions, lunch, recess, arrival, and dismissal as needed
Support classroom behavior management systems and reinforce school-wide expectations
Maintain a clean and organized classroom environment
Prepare instructional materials, set up classroom supplies, and complete clerical tasks to support teaching
Attend and actively participate in staff meetings, professional development sessions, and coaching
Provide coverage for other classrooms when necessary
Support the academic and cultural vision of Amani Charter School
Communicate positively and professionally with students, families, and staff
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent (required)
Associates or Bachelors degree (preferred)
NYS Teacher Assistant Certification required
Experience working with children in an educational setting (preferred)
A genuine belief in the potential of every student
Strong organizational and communication skills
Ability to receive and implement feedback
Passion for supporting a diverse student population
