Position Summary

Bio-Techne is committed to reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in alignment with the Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi). In mid-2026, Bio-Techne will submit Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions reduction targets for validation. The Sustainability Intern will play a key role in supporting the internal rollout of these targets across major operations and supply chain. This position will focus on developing actionable Scope 1 and 2 reduction roadmaps for large sites, creating low-carbon facility guidelines, and collaborating with procurement teams to engage suppliers in meeting Scope 3 reduction goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and Communicate Site-Level Roadmaps
    • Translate site-specific Scope 1 and 2 targets into actionable plans aligned with Bio-Techne's enterprise-wide goals.
    • Draft and train site staff on low-carbon facility guidelines for implementation, including local activation via the Green Team Employee Resource Group.
  • Support Scope 3 Supplier Engagement
    • Assist procurement and supply chain teams in strategies to ensure suppliers representing 67% of emissions by spend set science-based targets by 2030.
    • Research best practices for supplier engagement and reporting.
    • Develop a communications plan to engage suppliers effectively.
  • Data Analysis & Benchmarking
    • Collect and analyze energy, emissions, and procurement data to identify reduction opportunities.
    • Benchmark Bio-Techne's practices against industry standards.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration
    • Work with sustainability, operations, and procurement teams to align roadmaps with corporate goals.
    • Prepare presentations and reports for leadership updates.

Program Requirements

  • Enrollment in a bachelor's or master's program in environmental science, engineering, sustainability, supply chain management, or a related field.
  • Availability for full-time work during Summer 2026 (on-site/hybrid at Bio-Techne Minneapolis).
  • Strong interest in corporate sustainability and climate action initiatives.

Experience Qualifications

  • Technical Knowledge
    • Understanding of GHG accounting (Scopes 1, 2, and 3).
    • Familiarity with SBTi frameworks and corporate sustainability standards.
  • Analytical Skills
    • Ability to analyze energy and emissions data, identify trends, and propose reduction strategies.
    • Proficiency in Excel and data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau).
  • Project Management
    • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
    • Ability to develop structured roadmaps and guidelines.
  • Communication & Collaboration
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for stakeholder engagement.
    • Ability to work cross-functionally with operations, procurement, and sustainability teams.
  • Preferred Qualifications
    • Knowledge of renewable energy, energy efficiency, and low-carbon technologies.
