Lab Technician – Soap & Personal Care Manufacturing
Summary:
The Lab Technician supports the development, testing, and quality control of liquid soaps, bar soaps, detergents, and other personal care products. This role ensures all formulations meet company standards for safety, consistency, performance, and regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
Product Testing & Quality Control
- Perform routine physical, chemical, and microbiological tests on raw materials, in-process batches, and finished products.
- Evaluate product viscosity, pH, fragrance strength, color, appearance, hardness, stability, and other required parameters.
- Record and analyze test data to ensure products meet established specifications.
- Maintain retention samples and documentation according to GMP and quality standards.
Formulation & Development Support
- Assist in small-batch formulation of new soaps, detergents, and personal care prototypes.
- Measure, weigh, and mix ingredients following precise formulas and safety guidelines.
- Document formulation changes, observations, and improvements.
Compliance & Safety
- Follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and safety protocols.
- Properly handle chemicals, including surfactants, fragrances, colorants, and preservatives.
- Ensure lab equipment is calibrated, maintained, and used safely.
Documentation & Reporting
- Accurately complete batch records, test logs, QC reports, and data sheets.
- Communicate results to production supervisors and the quality team.
- Report non-conforming materials and assist with root-cause investigations.
Skills & Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required; Associate's or Bachelor's in Chemistry, Biology, or related field preferred.
- Experience in a manufacturing, chemical, cosmetic, or soap/cleaning-products environment is a plus.
- Strong understanding of lab equipment such as pH meters, viscometers, balances, mixers, and titration tools.
- Ability to follow formulas with precision and strong attention to detail.
- Good communication and computer skills (Excel, LIMS or QC software a bonus).
- Ability to lift up to 40 lbs and stand for extended periods.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $ $22.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 per week
