Job Summary:
Prevention Specialists play a vital role in delivering small group and individual services to children and adolescents in both community and school settings. The primary focus of this position is to help youth develop skills that reduce at-risk behaviors such as bullying, substance use, and other related challenges.

Key responsibilities include:
- Identifying and Engaging Youth: Locate youth populations in community or school environments who would benefit from evidence-based prevention programming.
- Marketing and Recruitment: Collaborate with community and school partners to promote services and recruit participants for small group lessons and one-on-one sessions.
- Curriculum Delivery: Learn, master, and implement evidence-based prevention curricula (e.g., Too Good for Drugs, Second Step, or similar programs), tailoring lessons to meet the needs of diverse audiences.
- Direct Service: Work comfortably with a wide age range of children—from elementary through high school—on topics such as bullying prevention, self-esteem building, social skills development, substance use prevention, and overall mental and physical wellness.
- Scheduling and Coordination: Develop and maintain a routine schedule of service provision in partnership with schools and community organizations.
- Tracking and Reporting: Document outreach and recruitment efforts, monitor attendance patterns, and submit attendance records and lesson plans to the Missouri Department of Mental Health to ensure compliance with grant requirements and fidelity standards.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of program policies, procedures, and regulations.
- Ability to develop, coordinate, and evaluate services within assigned program responsibilities.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to establish effective relationships with clients and stakeholders.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
Experience and/or Education Qualifications:
- Master's degree in social work, counseling, public health, education, psychology, community development, public administration or a related field; OR
- Bachelor's degree in a related field with at least one year of professional experience in a social service agency; OR
- Associate's degree in a related field with at least two years of professional experience in a social service agency.
- Missouri Substance Abuse Prevention Associate (MSAPA) credential required within six months of hire for 75% FTE Staff.
- Substance Abuse Prevention Specialist Training (SAPST) attendance required within nine months of hire for 75% FTE Staff.
Employment Requirements:
- Successful completion of background check including criminal record, driving record, abuse/neglect and fingerprint check.
- Completion of New Hire Orientation at the beginning of employment.
- All training requirements including Relias at the beginning of employment and annually thereafter.
- Current driver's license, acceptable driving record and current auto insurance.
Physical Requirements:
ADA Consideration - Sedentary work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally (exists up the 1/3 of the time) and/or a negligible amount of force frequently (exists 1/3 to 2/3 of the time) to lift, carry, push, or pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Repetitive movements of hands, fingers, and arms for typing and/or writing during work shift.
Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally, and all other sedentary criteria are met.
