Job Summary

The Shelter Driver is responsible for safely transporting shelter residents, donations, supplies, and equipment to and from the shelter and other designated locations. This role supports daily shelter operations while ensuring the safety, dignity, and comfort of all passengers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Safely transport shelter residents to appointments, programs, job interviews, schools, or other approved destinations
  • Pick up and deliver donations, food, supplies, and equipment as needed
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and well-functioning vehicle
  • Perform routine vehicle inspections and report maintenance issues promptly
  • Follow all traffic laws, safety procedures, and shelter policies
  • Assist residents with boarding and exiting vehicles when needed
  • Keep accurate trip logs, mileage records, and delivery documentation
  • Communicate effectively with shelter staff regarding schedules and transportation needs
  • Ensure confidentiality and treat all residents with respect and professionalism

Qualifications

  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
  • Experience driving
  • Ability to pass background check and drug screening
  • Basic knowledge of local routes and GPS navigation
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to lift 30+ pounds (if needed)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with vulnerable populations (homeless, domestic violence survivors, youth, or animals, if applicable)
  • CPR/First Aid certification
  • Commercial Driver's License (CDL) (Not Required)

Working Conditions

  • Flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends
  • May involve long periods of driving and sitting
  • Occasional lifting, bending, and loading/unloading

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $40,000.00 per year
