Job Summary:

The Electric Power Division currently has an opening for an Electrical Layout Design Engineer in the Global Gas Solutions Packaging team. As an Electrical Layout Design Engineer, you will have responsibility for planning and executing enclosure packaging development and customizing programs and electrical charging solutions for our construction and mining equipment. This work also includes cost reduction, on time design work, documentation, and ongoing maintenance initiatives. Keys to success in this role are the ability to manage project plans, effectively communicate with process partners and escalate issues as needed. You will manage the planning and delivery of projects, continually learn and stay up to date on innovative technologies, mentor and coach team members, and deepen your professional network.

What You Will Do:

  • Works with a global teams in designing innovative products, processes, and systems.
  • Provides technical direction and initiate new ideas based on product needs and analysis.
  • Communicates effectively with customers, suppliers, team members, and cross-functional units.
  • Manages multiple projects, balancing time, cost, resources, and quality tradeoffs.
  • Fosters collaboration and clearly communicate goals, tasks, and expectations.
  • Represents the team in meetings with management and external stakeholders.
  • Builds networks to secure resources and remove obstacles to team success.
  • Understands financial impacts of design decisions, including revenue, margins, and overall P&L considerations.
  • Develops and implements Virtual Reality (VR) models

What You Have:

Analytical Thinking: Working knowledge of techniques and tools that promote effective analysis; ability to determine the root cause of organizational problems and create alternative solutions that resolve these problems.

Effective Communications: Working knowledge and understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors.

Managing Multiple Priorities: Working knowledge of effective self-management practices; ability to manage multiple concurrent objectives, projects, groups, or activities, making effective judgments as to prioritizing and time allocation.

Technical Excellence: Working knowledge of a given technology and various application methods; ability to develop and provide solutions to significant technical challenges.

  • Experience with engine design, enclosure electrical layout, engine or genset controller development.
  • Experience with electrical codes (UL, NEC)

Computer-Aided Design & Engineering: Working knowledge of tools and techniques of specialized graphics programs; ability to produce, analyze, simulate and test product design drafts.

  • Experience with ProE/Creo and AutoCad Electrical

Product Design - MFG: Working knowledge of processes, approaches, tools and techniques of product design; ability to convert customer and market requirements into product design.

Product Design and Development: Working knowledge of product features; ability to design, build, and develop a new product, technology, or service from concept through to production.

Degree Requirement:

  • Requires a bachelor's degree

Additional Information:

  • This position is located in Lafayette, IN and does not offer relocation
  • This role is expected to be in-office 5 days a week
  • Visa sponsorship is not offered for this role
  • Travel is expected up to 20% of the time

Summary Pay Range:

$87, $131,280.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
