Position Purpose
Apprentice Teachers will have an opportunity to observe best practices in classroom instruction from experienced teachers. Apprentice Teachers co-teach, observe and learn from Master Teachers, provide in-house substitute teaching coverage for teachers, and support teachers with tutoring, grading, and individual or small group student instruction. Depending on school needs and candidate background, Apprentice Teachers may also teach their own class of students, allowing for direct teaching experience within a more limited teaching load under the supervision of the Master Teacher. Apprentice Teachers will have many opportunities to gain the experience and support necessary to develop their teaching skills. By the end of the second semester, Apprentice Teachers will be very strong candidates for a teaching position within GIPS.

Essential Job Responsibilities
- Provide substitute teaching coverage for teachers within the school.
- Periodically plan and deliver instruction.
- Develop teaching skills to potentially become a full-time teacher at the school.
- Observe and work with Master Teachers in order to improve instructional techniques and classroom management.
- Implement curricula and activities to meet academic standards.
- Design and implement assessments that measure progress towards academic standards.
- Use assessment data to refine curriculum and inform instructional practices.
- Participate in collaborative curriculum development, professional development, grade- activities, and school-wide functions, events, and trips.
- Supervise students during transitions, breakfast, lunch and afterschool.
- Accountable for students mastery of academic standards.
- Communicate effectively with students, families, and colleagues.
Position Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in education required.
- Must possess at all times during employment a Nebraska Teaching Certificate
