About

About ALSO.
We’re ALSO, an electric mobility company originally conceived as a part of Rivian. We’re a passionate team of builders, dreamers, doers and innovators, focused on creating entirely new (not to mention, innovative and delightful) vertically integrated, small EVs designed to meet the global mobility challenges of today and tomorrow. Our mission is to inspire everyone to ride ALSO—replacing many local car, truck and SUV miles with ones on vehicles that are more affordable, more enjoyable and 10-50x more efficient.
As a senior Data Engineer on the ALSO backend team, you will drive technical excellence and architectural decisions with a strong focus on analytics, data modeling, and data visualization. This role sits at the intersection of engineering rigor and analytical clarity — owning how telemetry and business data are transformed into trusted, scalable, decision-ready dashboards, that will create an excellent customer experience on Also’s flagship connected EVs. You’ll lead the evolution of our connected EV platform, from secure data ingestion to product facing APIs, and influence how we build and scale at Also. You balance speed and rigor, know how to scale systems, and thrive in fast paced 0→1 environments. The systems you build will power core product features and enhance our analytics and fleet intelligence capabilities. This is

Define visualization standards: metric definitions, charting patterns, UX clarity and Own dashboards as long-lived products, not one-off reports
Design and maintain analytics-layer data models (facts, dimensions, wide tables, semantic layers), Build performant datasets optimized for BI tools and large-scale querying
Partner with upstream engineers to shape event and telemetry schemas for downstream analytics, Optimize queries, storage, and compute for scale and cost efficiency in AWS
Define and enforce metric contracts across teams and Implement automated data quality checks (completeness, freshness, correctness)
Design pre- and post-pipeline validation frameworks and reduce metric drift and dashboard inconsistencies
Work cross functionally and turn ambiguous business questions into concrete metrics and dashboards
Influence without authority across multiple teams
What you will bring: 8+ years of experience in data engineering, analytics engineering, or analytics-focused roles with proven experience owning end-to-end analytics and visualization systems
Strong background working with large-scale telemetry and business data
Deep SQL expertise and strong Python (data pipelines, transformations, automation), dbt or equivalent analytics transformation frameworks
Track record of improving data quality, metric reliability, and dashboard usability
AWS (S3, Glue, Athena, Redshift / Redshift Serverless, Lambda, EventBridge)
Databricks / Spark-based ecosystems
Orchestration tools (Airflow, MWAA, Step Functions, or similar)
Tableau, Power BI, Looker / Looker Studio (or equivalent) and experience building executive and self-serve dashboards
Strong opinions on visualization UX and metric storytelling
Event-based data models. Funnel, cohort, and time-series analysis High-volume, high-cardinality datasets
Nice to Have
Experience at large-scale tech companies or data-intensive environments
Exposure to ML pipelines and feature instrumentation
Experience migrating or standardizing BI platforms
Front-end or advanced visualization experience (e.g., d3.js, custom visuals)
The estimated annual compensation for this position ranges from $165,000 - $200,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications.
