Our groundbreaking, guideline-based approach encompasses various aspects of cancer care including screening, risk assessment, prevention, treatment support, and survivorship. By leveraging technology-driven, patient-centered solutions, Color is paving the way for a new era in how cancer is managed by employers, unions, health plans, and governments. Our mission is to bridge crucial gaps in cancer care, enhance patient outcomes, and sensitively guide individuals through their healthcare journeys. If you’re ready to make a meaningful impact in your career, we encourage you to apply—even if you don't meet every requirement! About The Role
As a Lead Analytics Engineer at Color, you will serve as a vital link between our stakeholders and scalable data solutions. Your main responsibility will be to develop and maintain foundational data models that reveal valuable insights into our cancer screening programs, helping to illustrate the impact, identify opportunities for enhancement, and support informed product and business decisions. In collaboration with teams across Data, Product, and Engineering, you will define and maintain technical definitions that foster accurate program measurement and experimentation. Beyond simply creating dashboards and metrics, your focus will be on identifying patterns in stakeholder requirements across BI, product analytics, and client analytics, architecting sustainable systems that extend past temporary solutions. You will work on building trusted data infrastructure, developing self-service tools, and providing education that empowers teams to independently address their inquiries. Additionally, you will explore the use of AI and automation to enhance analytics workflows and unveil new capabilities. This position is ideal for someone who thrives at the crossroads of technical engineering and cross-functional strategy—eager to shape both the infrastructure and the culture that facilitate data-driven decisions at scale, while advancing Color's mission in cancer care. How You'll Contribute:
Craft and sustain foundational data models to demonstrate value to employers and prospective clients. Translate business requirements and data sources into robust, scalable models that yield insightful analysis. Work collaboratively with Product, Engineering, Operations, GTM, Clinical, and Client teams, clarifying uncertainties and balancing scope versus impact for effective solution delivery. Define and manage business logic in dbt, ensuring alignment with evolving products, data, and business necessities. Construct self-service data layers that resonate with business users for intuitive exploration. Partner with BI and analytics teams to ensure metric consistency and trust across dashboards. Identify recurring issues and develop reusable solutions to minimize ad hoc work and enhance scalability. Leverage emerging AI and automation tools to streamline analytics workflows and improve team productivity. Promote a culture of data-driven decision-making by mentoring team members and sharing best practices in analytics engineering. Must-Haves:
5+ years of experience leveraging data to drive product growth and operational efficiency. 5+ years of experience as an analytics engineer or in a comparable role. Advanced skills in SQL, data model design, and data warehouse platforms. Basic knowledge of Python and data science tools. Strong interest in modern data stack developments. Exceptional communication skills, proficient in engaging with both technical and non-technical team members to navigate decisions and trade-offs. Proven track record of driving complex projects from design through to completion. Commitment to software engineering best practices in the analytics landscape. A genuine desire to work at the intersection of healthcare and technology, committed to making preventive care accessible and equitable. Enthusiasm for adopting emerging technologies and AI tools to enhance team output. Nice to Have:
Experience with dbt, BigQuery, Fivetran, Airflow, Git. Familiarity with Analytics & BI tools like Omni or Metabase. Experience with large sets of healthcare or genomic data. History of automating manual processes through data solutions. Expertise in conforming diverse data sources into a unified model. Ability to develop self-service data resources. Assisting teams in the adoption of AI tools and workflows. Possible Projects to Contribute to:
Enhance self-service data models alongside analysts to increase usage and empower teams across Color; currently, over half the company utilizes our dashboards, and over a third generates their own analyses thanks to our comprehensive self-service models—we’re eager to expand this influence. Develop customer-facing data models to power the next generation of dashboards, providing clients with insights into program health (e.g., engagement rates, participation trends) and population outcomes (e.g., areas where Color can extend support). Create a unified medical claims data model to integrate disparate sources, enabling coherent and precise analysis of healthcare utilization and outcomes. Enhance data infrastructure performance and efficiency, ensuring our systems manage increasing data volumes and complexities sustainably and reliably. What We Offer:
Competitive salary. Comprehensive medical, dental, vision, life, and disability benefits. 401k match. Monthly phone and WiFi stipend, along with an annual ergonomic stipend. Generous vacation policy, paid holidays, and dedicated company-wide recharge days. Equal paid parental leave for all parents. Free cancer screening and preventative resources for employees and their adult dependents. Location: Hybrid (2-3 days/week) at our Burlingame, CA headquarters. The actual base pay is dependent upon many factors including work experience, market data, skills, geographic location, and business need. Base pay range is subject to change.
This role may also be eligible for equity and benefits.
Color is committed to an inclusive workplace and prohibits discrimination and harassment of any form, ensuring equal employment opportunities without regard to any protected characteristics as outlined by law. We are also dedicated to providing reasonable accommodations for qualified applicants with disabilities throughout our recruitment process.
