About The Role
The Staff Software Engineer (Product) at Watershed plays a pivotal role in shaping the technical direction of the company's product offerings. This position involves collaborating closely with cross-functional teams including Product, Design, and Customer Success to define and execute a strategic technical roadmap. The engineer will leverage their extensive experience to build scalable, high-impact platform features that deliver tangible value to customers. They will serve as a technical leader, guiding engineering teams toward innovative solutions while ensuring code quality and maintainability. The role requires a strong systems mindset, with an emphasis on balancing rapid development with sustainable, long-term code stewardship. The ideal candidate will thrive in a dynamic, mission-driven environment and be committed to fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
Qualifications
- 8+ years of engineering experience with a proven track record of delivering complex software solutions.
- Extensive experience building user-facing applications with a focus on usability, performance, and scalability.
- Strong understanding of systems architecture and design principles.
- Proven leadership experience, including leading high-performing engineering teams.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to think strategically about technical challenges.
- Experience working in agile environments with cross-functional teams.
- Strong communication skills, capable of articulating technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
Responsibilities
- Partner with Product, Design, and Customer teams to define a clear technical roadmap aligned with business goals.
- Leverage existing platform capabilities to develop high-impact features that meet customer needs.
- Collaborate with platform teams to share insights and influence the platform roadmap based on customer feedback and technical requirements.
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable, reliable, and secure software components.
- Mentor and lead engineering teams to foster a culture of innovation, quality, and continuous learning.
- Ensure adherence to best practices in coding, testing, and deployment processes.
- Work closely with engineering leadership to optimize team productivity and technical excellence.
- Participate in code reviews, technical discussions, and strategic planning sessions.
