About
Duties and Responsibilities
- Performs independently, essential safety and operational needs of the airport(s). Takes corrective action as needed to ensure the safe and efficient operations of the airport. Often performs duties unsupervised and will supervise Smith Field Airport.
- Acts as Project Manager for related projects, and/or as assigned
- Acts as point of contact for various plans and programs. These programs include the snow removal, mowing, special events, and other duties as assigned.
- Conducts daily and special inspections of all facilities (airside, landside, terminal) for safety, security, aesthetics and regulatory compliance and takes corrective action when able or generates maintenance requests.
- Maintains a daily shift log detailing all routine, non-routine and important happenings occurring anywhere on airport property. Monitors day to day construction activities and escorts contractor crews when necessary and ensures highest level of safety for work crews and aircraft. Administers Wildlife Management Program.
- Assists Airport Maintenance Department with facility repairs and grounds maintenance, when necessary. Conducts regular vehicle/equipment preventative maintenance inspections. Performs janitorial duties, as necessary. Ensures AWOS and PAPI inspections are completed.
- Must be able to drive a tractor for mowing and snow removal.
- Must be able to use a radio and communicate with aircraft
- Fuels aircraft, maintains fuel farm, conducts daily, quarterly, monthly, and annual fuel quality controls and accepts fuel deliveries.
- Performs other aircraft servicing functions as necessary to include towing, marshalling, transient space assignments, etc.
- Daily policing and enforcement of: Standard Operating Procedures, Operations Manual, Airport rules and regulations, all applicable Federal Aviation Regulations, and Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan.
- Coordinates with coworkers in the management of assigned projects to include, but not limited to inspection review, field maintenance plan assignments, small maintenance assignments, etc.
- Ensures issuance of Notices to Airmen (NOTAM) are accurate.
- Maintains compliance with departmental security, audit procedures, and Authority policy.
- Acts as a responder and point of contact to any malfunctions or operational emergencies at the airport. Contacts appropriate personnel if needed to assure task completion.
- Ensures highest level of customer service and assistance. Fields complaints from client/owner, customers, the community, tenants, etc. Coordinate and oversee youth group/community enrichment programs. Prepares complaint forms.
- Monitors access control program.
- Accurately and efficiently handles monies collected from fuel/aviation product sales.
- Conducts hangar inspections for lease compliance and after move-out.
- Conducts initial training of airport employees and with assigning Airport Interns with projects.
- Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Abilities
- Knowledge of management principles and practices as applied to airport operations, planning and safety; strong ability to work with computers and software typically used in airport operations.
- Knowledge of FAA, TSA, and State of Indiana rules and regulations affecting airport operations.
- Knowledge of airfield construction and its impact to airport operations.
- Knowledge of airfield safety requirements and ability to observe and use sound judgment in assessment and corrective actions.
- Ability to plan, organize, and supervise the work of others.
- Ability to submit and adhere to a budget
- Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written forms.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with officials, airport tenants, employees, and the general public
- Ability to perform assigned tasks independently involving proper use of airport equipment.
- Ability to properly handle the equipment used in the workplace.
- Ability to perform routine maintenance; properly use two-way radio equipment and safely operate equipment on the airfield.
- Ability to properly represent the Fort Wayne-Allen County Airport Authority when delivering customer service.
Experience and Education Requirements
- High school equivalent education with at least six months of maintenance related work experience (i.e., equipment operation, concrete, building maintenance, construction, and/or lawn care) and customer service.
- Position requires basic computer operations experience, including strong working knowledge of email, word processing and spreadsheet applications (Microsoft products desirable).
Special Requirements
- Valid driver's license
- Pass a pre-hire drug screen and random alcohol and drug testing
- Pass federal fingerprint based criminal history background check
- Available for recall during non-duty hours for emergencies, snow removal or other required duties
Supervision
Oversight
- Work objectives are set by the Lead Operations Coordinator; the methods of performing tasks are frequently left to the judgment of the employee with a supervisor giving occasional instruction or advice on decisions.
- No formal responsibility for supervising other employees.
Physical Requirements
- Medium work - Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Environmental Requirements
- Position is subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions, extreme cold, extreme heat, noise, vibration, hazards, atmospheric conditions, and oils.
The Airport Operations Coordinator II is responsible for ensuring safe and efficient day to day operations of the Airport, as well as oversee the provision of aircraft refueling and courtesy ramp assistance to airport users in accordance with established standards and procedures. Process sale transactions, coordinate pilot and employee communications and perform general maintenance duties. Provide the highest level of customer service and safety at all times. The Airport Operations Coordinator II is expected to be self-motivating and able to prioritize duties efficiently.
