Job Title: Senior Engineer - Electrical Engineering (Control & Instrumentation)

Location: Barrow-in-Furness (Hybrid - 2 days onsite per fortnight, depending on business needs)

Salary: Competitive (Commensurate with skills and experience)

What You'll Be Doing:

Join us in a pivotal role where your expertise will shine! As a Senior Engineer, you will:

  • Develop and manage requirements and acceptance criteria for systems and products.
  • Understand and support contractual and performance requirements throughout design, build, integration, installation, and commissioning.
  • Create essential documentation for design reviews, including diagrams, technical specifications, and supporting calculations.
  • Review supplier documentation and ensure accurate recording of technical manuals and electrical schematics.
  • Ensure comprehensive design proving evidence is captured and endorsed by the appropriate authority.
  • Maintain compliance with contractual requirements and adhere to company safety and environmental standards.
  • Conduct design reviews and present findings to customers.
  • Provide technical support for integrated performance and acceptance activities.
  • Support Certificate of Design activities and articulate complex technical arguments clearly.
  • Deliver engineering solutions for build activities, defect resolution, and change management.
Your Skills and Experiences:

We’re looking for someone with a passion for engineering and a strong foundation in the field. You should have:

  • BEng (Hons) / MEng or equivalent.
  • Progress towards professional registration.
  • Strong technical report writing skills.
  • Demonstrable experience in the engineering lifecycle.
  • Knowledge of defence standards (a plus, but not essential).
  • Experience in system calculations, modelling, and analysis.
  • Understanding of at least one of the following areas:
    • Instrumentation and control system theory, including PID control.
    • Electrical circuit design, EMC precautions, and power supply characteristics.
    • Safety Integrity Levels and BS EN 61508 or 61511.
    • Control panel detail design.
    • Fieldbus technology (Profibus/Profinet).

The Centralised Control and Instrumentation Team:

This is an excellent opportunity to work within our Centralised Control and Instrumentation Team on the SSNA program and next-generation submarine design. You will support Principal Engineers and external specialists in the development, analysis, integration, and verification of platform control and instrumentation systems.

In this role, you will lead analysis and produce technical reports, managing and maturing operator control console design to meet defined criteria and program demands.

We also offer relocation support packages for eligible candidates across all Submarines roles.
