What You'll Be Doing:
  • Develop and Manage: System, product, and system-of-systems requirements with robust acceptance criteria aligned with program needs.
  • Documentation: Produce comprehensive design review documentation, including diagrams, technical specifications, calculations, and justifications for design decisions.
  • Support Design Certification: Prepare evidence and present complex technical arguments clearly and logically.
  • Requirements Derivation: Create detailed hardware and software requirements for control systems, guiding suppliers in equipment design and specification.
  • Functional Design Specifications: Oversee the creation and management of physical system interfaces and attribute signal-level functionality through system databases.
  • Compliance Assurance: Conduct design verification and generate evidence to meet IEC 61508/61511 or equivalent functional safety standards.
Your Skills and Experiences:
  • Education: Degree-qualified (BEng/MEng or equivalent), ideally working towards professional registration.
  • Technical Writing: Comprehensive skills in technical report writing with experience across the engineering lifecycle.
  • Standards Knowledge: Familiarity with defence standards is beneficial but not essential.
  • Analytical Skills: Experience in system calculations, modelling, and analysis.
  • Instrumentation Knowledge: Understanding of control theory (e.g., PID), control system architecture, or functional decomposition.
  • Systems Engineering: Demonstrable ability to interpret and apply systems engineering principles in complex technical environments.

The Centralised Control and Instrumentation Team:

Join a highly skilled group of 16 engineers at the forefront of SSNA (Successor/Next-Generation Submarine) platform development. Our team shapes, matures, and validates the most critical control systems, ensuring submarines operate reliably and safely in line with IEC 61508 and other functional safety standards. This is an exciting opportunity to play a direct role in defining the next generation of submarine control systems that must perform flawlessly in the world’s most demanding conditions.

We also offer relocation support packages across all Submarines roles, subject to meeting eligibility criteria.
