Position Description
Operations Supervisor

To supervise the assigned shift in the unloading, storage and load out of metal alloys and other bulk commodities in a safe and efficient manner. Supervise the union-represented employees, create and manage the work schedule on a daily basis, assist in supervising the maintenance, observe and train the employees per the KM SQE (safety-quality-environment) program.

MANAGE AS A BUSINESS LEADER

  • Secure and Grow Base Business (Increase service offering to current client base)
  • Identify growth opportunities; execute 1 expansion project per terminal.
  • Manage P&Ls to preserve operating margins and achieve EBITDA (Earnings Before Interest Taxes Depreciation Amortization) Targets
  • Understand profitability of each customer and commodity
  • Participate in developing the facility forecast to achieve 95% accuracy (final week to actual).
  • Develop competition and market understanding and develop business strategy to exploit both
  • Develop and properly manage KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) and MOEs (Measurements of Effectiveness)
  • Participate in developing the 72 hour planning cycle (review last 24, confirm current 24, forecast next 48)

ACT AS A RISK MANAGER

  • Identify abnormal safety, environmental and operational issues and mitigate associate risks and mitigate associated risk.
  • Understand facility operational and mechanical limitations and prevent service failures
  • Understand EHS compliance requirements and prevent regulatory exceedance

ENGAGE AS AN EMPLOYEE MOTIVATOR

  • Coach, teach and mentor direct reports to achieve established goals
  • Develop a collaborative work environment which includes employees at all levels
  • Effectively communicate and enforce standards across the workforce
  • Effectively recognize employees for exceeding the standard
  • Identify and address employee issues at the terminal level
  • Identify and develop a plan to change or remove non-performers

Position Requirements
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Associate's degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school or equivalent related work experience.

Preferred Education
Bachelor's degree in engineering or operations management.

Experience

  • 3 to 5 years of progressively more responsible industry-related experience within production operations.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience relative to bulk operations including experience with rail loading and unloading, truck loading and unloading, and barge loading and unloading.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of electrical control systems, PLC systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, and mechanical issues related to the bulk
