DescriptionThe Dougherty County EMS Department is hiring for Paramedic FTOs. The purpose of this position is to respond to emergency calls to provide efficient and immediate care to the critically ill and injured, to transport patients to appropriate medical facilities, and to serve as a Field Training Officer (FTO) responsible for training and evaluating newly hired employees. This position also performs quality improvement audits, documents new hire training progress, and conducts scenario-based training for current employees.
This class works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences. The Field Training Officer reports directly to the Training Supervisor for all training and quality improvement issues and serves as the default fill-in for Assistant Supervisors when assigned.
Essential Tasks- Initiates and provides advanced life support patient care in accordance with state and local protocols.
- Assists with the proper extrication and movement of trapped or injured patients.
- Directs the operations of first responders and bystanders at emergency scenes.
- Manages and accounts for controlled drugs assigned to the ambulance.
- Ensures that all patient care reports and related documentation are complete, accurate, and compliant after each call.
- Ensures proper radio communications with dispatch, hospitals, and other responding units.
- Operates emergency vehicles in both emergency and non-emergency situations.
- Determines patient transport destination in accordance with protocols and patient condition.
- Provides professional and courteous customer service at all times to in-house staff and the general public, either by telephone, electronically, or face-to-face.
- Checks ambulance supplies and vehicle condition at the beginning of the shift and after every call and ensures proper restocking.
- Provides medical coverage for special events such as, but not limited to, athletic events, concerts, and community activities when requested.
- Serves as a Field Training Officer for newly hired employees as well as current employees; provides structured field instruction, evaluates performance, and documents training progress in approved systems.
- Maintains accurate and complete new hire training records, evaluations, and remediation plans as required.
- Conducts quality improvement (QI) audits of patient care reports to assess clinical performance, protocol compliance, and documentation standards.
- Provides feedback, coaching, and remedial instruction to employees based on quality improvement findings.
- Develops and conducts scenario-based training for current employees to reinforce clinical skills, teamwork, and decision-making.
- Serves as the default fill-in for Assistant Supervisors when assigned and performs related leadership or operational duties.
- Performs related work as assigned.
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent and Basic Level EMT Course.
- 2 years as a Paramedic with Dougherty County EMS
: Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.
- Performs heavy work that involves constantly lifting, shoveling, and carrying 35 to 50 pounds on a regular and recurring basis and exerting 100 pounds of force on an occasional basis
Unavoidable Hazards (Work Environment): Unavoidable hazards refer to the job conditions that may lead to injury or health hazards even though precautions have been taken.
- Involves routine and frequent exposure to:
o Bright/dim light; Dusts and pollen.
o Extreme heat and/or cold; Wet or humid conditions.

o Traffic; Moving machinery.

Special Certifications And Licenses:
- Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license with an acceptable driving history.
- Must be a State of Georgia Licensed Paramedic.
- Must maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
- Must maintain 2 current instructor certifications in Georgia Department of Health approved continuing education courses. If the candidate does not already possess 2 instructor certifications, they must obtain them within 12 months of promotion to FTO.
