About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Software Engineer to join our Video Playback Engineering team, focusing on the development and maintenance of our Roku playback library. This role is pivotal in delivering a seamless streaming experience across Disney's direct-to-consumer platforms such as Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with media playback teams across various platforms to ensure a consistent and optimized media playback architecture that enhances viewer engagement. Your expertise will contribute to designing, developing, and refining media playback solutions that support high-quality video streaming, adaptive bitrate switching, and robust playback controls. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work on innovative media technologies that impact millions of viewers globally, shaping the future of Disney's digital entertainment offerings.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering, Electrical or Electronics Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 7 years of professional experience in software development or related roles.
- At least 2 years of experience developing applications for Roku using BrightScript.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to present data effectively.
- Proven track record in senior or lead software engineering roles, demonstrating leadership and technical expertise.
- Experience working with media playback technologies such as MSE/EME, HLS, MPEG-DASH, Transport Stream, or CMAF (preferred).
- Experience in API design, integration, and collaboration with cross-functional teams.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement new features for media playback solutions, integrating seamlessly with various Disney media services and backend systems.
- Collaborate with media teams and front-end developers to define and refine APIs ensuring consistency and performance across platforms.
- Conduct research and development to enhance media playback experiences, including testing and troubleshooting playback issues.
- Participate actively in project planning, sprint reviews, and team operations to ensure timely delivery of features and improvements.
- Maintain and improve the Roku media playback library, ensuring compatibility with evolving streaming standards and technologies.
- Contribute to the development of scalable, reliable, and efficient media playback systems supporting Disney's streaming platforms.
- Stay updated with the latest trends and advancements in media streaming and playback technologies, applying best practices to our solutions.
