CAD AUTOMATION ENGINEER - LEVEL II

Summary
As a CAD Automation Engineer – Level II, you will develop automated solutions to optimize CAD operations and workflows. Your work will focus on improving efficiency and precision in CAD design through scripting and tool development, in addition to typical designer project work. You'll collaborate with engineers and designers to understand needs and deliver effective automation tools to enhance the design and engineering process, as well as creating solar layouts and drawing packages.

This position reports to the Manager of Electrical Engineering, or another management personnel that the President of the Company may designate. This position reports to the Irvine, CA office but will maintain a hybrid schedule of working out of their home office and the Irvine, CA office. Working hours are Monday through Friday, from 8:00am to 5:00pm or 9:00am to 6:00pm local time. This position is expected to travel up to 30% of the time.

Essential Job Function & Responsibilities

  • Regular attendance, in accordance with company's attendance policy and supervisory assignment, is an essential job duty requirement for this position
  • Perform other duties and special projects, as assigned by Management
  • Splitting time between developing basic automation scripts/tools to enhance CAD software capabilities, and project design work as determined by your manager (30% Automation work, 70% Project design work).
  • Collaborate with design and engineering teams to identify workflow inefficiencies.
  • Provide technical support and training on the use of automation tools.
  • Maintain and update existing CAD automation tools and scripts.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and best practices in CAD design and automation.
  • Document all developed tools, processes, and best practices.
  • Conduct regular reviews and updates to automation processes to ensure continuous improvement.
  • Support the design and implementation of templates that follow company standards to enhance design speed, accuracy and consistency
  • Collaborate with Design Managers to enhance company design standards
  • Create new dynamic blocks in CAD to make design work more efficient.

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of Autocad design experience
  • 1+ years of coding experience (LISP is a must-have)
  • 2+ years of experience automating design and engineering processes
  • Demonstrated knowledge ADDA CAD standards and best practices
  • Demonstrated experience with Autocad templating and building advanced Dynamic Blocks
  • Demonstrated experience writing user/technical manuals on using the tools/templates created
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the general design and engineering process of solar
  • Demonstrated experience with task prioritization (the ability to prioritize automation with the biggest impact and the shortest development timeline)
  • Excellent communication skills
