Overview

We are seeking an experienced Manager of Data Operations to lead and scale a high-impact enterprise data operations team. This role is responsible for overseeing Database Administrators (DBAs) and Data Engineers supporting mission-critical data platforms in a complex, regulated environment.

The ideal candidate brings a strong blend of hands-on database expertise, people leadership, and operational rigor, with deep experience across Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server environments. You will ensure database stability, performance, security, and compliance while partnering closely with infrastructure, application, security, and business teams.

This is a leadership role for someone who thrives in highly available, enterprise-scale environments and understands that database operations are foundational to business continuity and data integrity.

Key Responsibilities

Team & Operational Leadership

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of Oracle and SQL Server DBAs and data professionals
  • Oversee day-to-day database operations, ensuring high availability, reliability, and performance
  • Set strategic direction for database operations, tooling, and operational standards
  • Manage workload prioritization, on-call coverage, and resource allocation

Database Platform Management

  • Oversee database architecture, installation, configuration, upgrades, backups, and recovery processes
  • Ensure proactive monitoring, performance tuning, and issue prevention across all environments
  • Establish and maintain best practices, standards, and procedures for database administration

Security, Risk & Compliance

  • Coordinate and ensure timely application of database security patches across all platforms
  • Partner with Information Security teams to meet internal security standards and regulatory requirements (e.g., HIPAA, SOX, SOC)
  • Enforce role-based access controls, audit logging, encryption, and data protection strategies

Project & Cross-Functional Support

  • Collaborate with infrastructure, application development, analytics, and business teams on data-driven initiatives
  • Provide leadership on capacity planning, scalability, migrations, and platform modernization efforts
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for enterprise database-related projects

Reporting & Documentation

  • Maintain accurate documentation for database environments, configurations, patching schedules, and procedures
  • Produce regular reporting on database performance, uptime, risk posture, and compliance status

Must-Have Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience in enterprise database administration
  • 3+ years of experience leading or managing DBAs and/or data operations teams
  • Hands-on expertise with Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server in production environments
  • Strong knowledge of database performance tuning, monitoring, high availability (HA), and disaster recovery (DR)
  • Experience overseeing security patching, access controls, and audit/compliance requirements
  • Proven ability to manage operational workload, prioritization, and incident response
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to partner across infrastructure, application, and security teams

Nice-to-Have Qualifications

  • Experience supporting regulated environments (e.g., HIPAA, SOX, SOC)
  • Exposure to data engineering or platform modernization initiatives
  • Familiarity with enterprise monitoring, backup, and patch management tools
  • Experience with capacity planning, migrations, or cloud/hybrid database environments
  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field
  • Background in process improvement or operational maturity frameworks (ITIL, SRE concepts, etc.)
