Job Purpose Summary: Responsible to assist the licensed and professional staff by performing various resident care activities and related nonprofessional services necessary in caring for the personal needs and comfort of the residents with regard for individual rights and dignity.

Responsibilities:

  • Provides for activities of daily living by assisting with serving meals, feeding patients as necessary; ambulating, dressing, turning, and positioning patients; providing fresh water and nourishment between meals.
  • Demonstrates ability of providing assistance with resident grooming and hygiene needs. This would include: complete/partial baths, oral care, dentures, Foley care, hair/nail care, shaving, and bed making.
  • Assists in the toileting needs of the residents, records outputs accurately. Empties drainage collection devices, completes documentation of BM and participates in toileting scheduling, as necessary.
  • Answers call lights promptly; responds promptly to resident inquiries, reports any abnormal findings or complaints to licensed nurse.
  • Obtains vital signs, weights and intake and output at the direction of the licensed nurse.
  • Participate in resident programming, as directed.
  • Assists the nurse with various duties as directed.
  • Ensure accurate reporting of all injury/accidents in the facility to the licensed nurse timely.
  • Ensure all documentation is completed accurately.
  • Communicate effectively with licensed nurse regarding resident care issues.
  • Maintain all aspects of confidentiality relating to the residents and any policies or procedures at the community.
  • Provide emotional support to residents, as needed.
  • Maintain an acceptable attendance record to provide continuity of service to our residents.
  • Projects poise, professionalism, and a positive image. Wears appropriate clothing and accessories, giving proper attention to personal hygiene. Wears Facility ID badge while on duty.
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational training/in-services and maintaining state certification.
  • Adheres to professional standards, facility policies and procedures, federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Understands and implements the Fire Safety and Disaster Preparedness Plan and evacuation procedures of the community during drills and emergencies.
  • Follow all safety, security, infection control, Universal Precautions and Hazardous Material policies and procedures. Performs all tasks to assure resident and personal safety and the protection of co-workers and community property.
  • Interacts with residents, guests and staff in an atmosphere of hospitality`
  • Actively incorporates Pinnacle Standards into everyday performance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Educational Requirements and Experience:

  • Certified Nursing Assistant in the state of West Virginia
  • Current certification is in good standing
  • Basic Life Support certification (CPR card) or willingness to obtain
  • Experience with geriatric population, preferred

Knowledge and Competencies:

Must have basic knowledge of state and federal regulations concerning assisted living nursing care in West Virginia. Must have knowledge of the concepts of aging and concerns of the elderly. Conducts job duties in accordance with departmental standards. Organizes work to complete job tasks in a timely manner. Responds promptly to change in workload, adjusting assignments to achieve optimal productivity and efficiency. Verbal ability to express ideas and views effectively. Demonstrates attitude of cooperation and professionalism when working in community.

Environmental Adaptability: Works primarily indoors in a climate controlled setting. May have exposure to unpleasant odors. Possible exposure to chemicals as identified in the MSDS Manual. Possible exposure to infections, diseases and blood borne pathogens. Continuous exposure to residents who are ill, confused, irrational and irritable. May have exposure to residents, family members and staff who are emotionally upset. May need to work beyond a normal working hour day, as necessary. Must be able to work weekends and holidays, as scheduled.

Physical Requirements:

Mobility is necessary in order to stand, sit, walk, use hands, fingers, stoop and crouch or kneel in order to interact with residents, staff and families at least 60 percent of the time. Talking, hearing, smelling, concentration, attention to detail, vision close and distance over 60 percent of the time. Lifting objects up to 10 pounds over 60 percent of the time and over 50 pounds less than 30 percent of the time.
