About

The Youth Apprentice Pharmacy Technician offers hands-on experience for high school students looking to pursue a career in a professional pharmacy setting, supporting pharmacists and pharmacy staff while gaining practical skills and knowledge in pharmaceutical care and customer service. The ideal candidate is eager to learn, detail-oriented, and committed to providing excellent patient support.

Essential Functions of the Job:
Assist in the preparation and labeling of prescriptions under direct supervision.

Support inventory control by stocking shelves and organizing medication supplies.

Perform clerical duties such as answering phones, filing, and processing customer transactions at the register.

Learn and adhere to pharmacy laws, HIPAA regulations, and safety procedures.

Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of the pharmacy work area.

Provide friendly, professional, and helpful service to customers.

Observe and assist with pharmacy workflow to understand the role of a pharmacy technician.

Supervisory Controls
Level of supervisory oversight and guidance is:
On-the-job training provided by licensed pharmacy staff.

Participation in related classroom instruction as required by the apprenticeship program.

Qualifications & Skills:

Preferred Education/Experience:
Currently enrolled in high school and participating in a Youth Apprenticeship Program.

Interest in pharmacy, healthcare, or a related field.

Strong communication and organizational skills.

Ability to follow directions and work under supervision.

Dependable, punctual, and committed to the program schedule.

Basic computer and math skills.

Skills:
Customer service: professionally answer phone calls, greet and assist customers

Work on prescription processing software\keyboarding
Use basic math skills to fill prescriptions and manage inventory
Conform to all HIPAA standards
Professional communication skills
Applies knowledge of top 200 brands of drugs and their generic equivalents and therapeutic classes of drugs
Applies and continues to gain knowledge about billing third parties, including Medicare and Medicaid
