This is a physical, fast-paced role that requires technical expertise, precision, and the ability to work independently in a high-stakes environment.

What You'll Do:

Cable Plant Operations & Support

  • Keep cable plant documentation up-to-date, including circuit and routing records.

Installation, Design & Enhancements

  • Assist with configuration and validation testing to ensure compliance with cabling standards and quality benchmarks.

Construction & Infrastructure Coordination

  • Collaborate on monitoring construction, renovation, and remodeling activities that affect cable pathways.
  • Maintain internal and external cable support systems and routing infrastructure.
  • Oversee any commercial communication provider activities that might impact facility cabling.

Certification Requirement:

  • Every cable work order will require involvement from a Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD) certified by BICSI or an equivalent; this role will provide necessary support for these work orders.

Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of hands-on experience as a cable technician working with copper and fiber optic installations.
  • Proficiency with installing, terminating, labeling, and testing CAT5e/CAT6/CAT6A and fiber optic cabling.
  • Skilled with cable testing tools and certification equipment for copper and fiber systems.
  • Solid understanding of BICSI, ANSI/TIA/EIA, and other relevant cabling standards.
  • Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, floor plans, and routing maps.
  • Experience supporting cable routing during construction or renovation projects.
  • Strong documentation skills with a focus on accuracy and detail.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with engineers, contractors, and service providers.
  • Strong time management skills, able to prioritize and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Willingness and ability to work on-site in Washington, DC for the duration of the assignment.
  • Ability to pass all customer-specific background investigation requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • RCDD certification (BICSI) or experience working closely with an RCDD.
  • Experience working in large-scale government or enterprise cable plant environments.
  • Familiarity with cable management or asset tracking systems.
  • Experience with fiber splicing, OTDR testing, or loss measurement tools.

Work Environment:
