About
This is a full-time position within the Virtual Design & Construction (VDC) Department. The BIM Coordinator works closely with the Director of VDC, Design Electrician, VDC staff, field personnel, and Project Managers to layout, model, and coordinate all aspects of the electrical scope of work for assigned projects. The role is responsible for translating contract documents and design intent into accurate, coordinated 3D electrical models and installation drawings.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & TRAINING:
- High School diploma or GED required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, drafting, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience working for an electrical contractor or construction firm in a BIM/VDC, coordination, or similar role.
- Strong proficiency in BIM and coordination software, including Revit, AutoCAD, and Navisworks, with emphasis on clash detection and model coordination.
- Demonstrated experience leading or actively participating in MEP coordination processes.
- Working knowledge of the Chicago Electrical Code and the National Electrical Code (NEC).
- Solid understanding of electrical construction materials, installation methods, sequencing, and spatial requirements.
- Ability to review, interpret, and coordinate contract documents, drawings, submittals, and specifications across multiple trades.
- Ability to translate design intent into coordinated BIM models that support constructability and field installation.
- Experience facilitating coordination meetings and resolving clashes with designers, general contractors, and trade partners.
- Familiarity with Trimble Total Station and related layout workflows preferred.
- Strong organizational, communication, and collaboration skills.
- Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel) and web-based project platforms
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Review contract documents, submittal data, and internal estimate files to fully understand the electrical scope of work.
- Populate and maintain electrical drafting models based on contract and design information.
- Collaborate with VDC staff, field staff, and Project Managers to ensure accurate and cost-effective electrical layouts.
- Participate in and represent the company at MEP coordination meetings.
- Develop and detail electrical installation drawings in coordination with the VDC team.
- Integrate product-specific data into electrical models to support coordination and constructability.
Other Duties
- Attend staff, departmental, and other required meetings and training.
- Travel to client or prospect locations, conference, or other professional development and networking events.
- Other duties as needed or assigned.
