Job SummaryPerform duties associated with the location of utility lines and responds to requests from other City departments to collect and input utility data. This position works under the direction of the GIS Analyst. Job ResponsibilitiesReceives, reviews and responds to utility locate requests within rights-of-way, alleys or easements. Properly identify and accurately locate underground facilities owned and operated by the City of Crestview. Maintains physical and digital records and submits timely reports on work performed, as required. Maintains line locator equipment in good working order, reporting any problems to immediate supervisor. Reads and interprets utility information from various construction plans, blueprints, designs, drawings and sketches. Assists GIS Analyst with data entry within GIS and asset management systems, as needed. Scan paper construction plan documents and organize/file digital construction plan documents. Perform related work as required. Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesKnowledge of basic computing tasks including word processing skills. Knowledge of safe operating procedures used in and around high traffic and high noise areas. Ability to understand and interpret construction plans and drawings. Ability to maintain effective working relationships with other employees. Ability to effectively consult with and assist coworkers and contractors. Ability to respectfully communicate with the public. Ability to flexibly adapt to changes in task priorities and focus. Ability to work in a group, as well as independently with minimal direction. Skills related to GIS or drafting are preferred. Qualifications Minimum Requirements Possession of a valid State of Florida Driver's license is required High School Diploma or GED and two (2) years experience in utility work (water, wastewater or reuse) or a closely related field. An equivalent combination of specific education or training may be substituted for no more than one (1) year experience. Previous experience in utility location is preferred. GIS or drafting experience is preferred. Physical Demands This position primarily consists of field work, which requires sustained periods of standing and walking to locate utility lines. This position occasionally involves office work, which may require sustained periods of sitting and repetitive hand motions with regard to typical office tasks. This position performs physically demanding work, including but not limited to: bending, stooping and climbing, standing and walking on active construction sites, and maneuvering non-accessible and irregular surfaces. This position must be able to lift heavy objects in excess of 50 pounds. This position includes exposure to high noise levels on work sites and high traffic volumes on roadways. This position would be required to follow safety procedures carefully.
