Overview
The City of Seadrift is seeking a skilled and reliable Public Works Employee with prior experience in municipal maintenance, infrastructure repair, and utility systems. This position plays an essential role in maintaining the city's streets, water and wastewater systems, parks, and public facilities to ensure a safe and functional community environment.
Duties
- Perform maintenance, repair, and installation of city infrastructure, including streets, drainage systems, water lines, and wastewater systems.
- Operate and maintain a variety of equipment such as backhoes, dump trucks, mowers, and hand tools.
- Read water meters, record usage, and assist with meter repairs or replacements.
- Respond to public service requests and emergency repairs, including after-hours or on-call rotations.
- Maintain city buildings, parks, and public spaces through mowing, landscaping, and general upkeep.
- Assist with inspections, preventive maintenance, and record keeping for water and sewer facilities.
- Follow safety procedures and report hazards, maintenance issues, and equipment malfunctions.
- Support other city departments and participate in community projects as needed.
Requirements - Experienced - Fulltime
Education & Experience:
High school diploma or GED required.
Minimum 2 years of experience in public works, utilities, construction, or related field.
Experience operating heavy equipment and performing utility line work preferred.
Licenses & Certifications:
Valid Texas Driver's License required; CDL preferred or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.
Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) water/wastewater license preferred or ability to obtain.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Working knowledge of water distribution, wastewater collection, and street maintenance practices.
Ability to read and interpret maps, diagrams, and maintenance records.
Strong mechanical aptitude and safe work habits.
Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and perform physically demanding labor.
Effective communication and teamwork skills.
Requirements - Part-time
Education & Experience:
High school diploma or GED preferred but not required.
No previous public works experience required; training will be provided.
Experience in landscaping, maintenance, or construction is a plus.
Licenses & Certifications:
- Valid Texas Driver's License required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to perform physical labor, lift up to 50 lbs and work outdoors in various weather conditions.
Basic mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn new skills.
Dependable, punctual, and able to follow instructions.
Ability to work cooperatively in a small team.
Work Schedule
Part-time position; hours may vary based on seasonal needs and workload.
Occasional weekend or after-hours work may be requested.
Compensation
Hourly wage based on qualifications.
No full-time benefits; part-time benefits as applicable under City policy.
