Description
K2United is an organization that houses two distinct, national, customer-facing brands tied together by a shared purpose: setting the standard for an extraordinary workplace. Through our brands, K2Share and CareerSafe, we provide advisory services in cyber risk management and online education for workforce readiness.
Our four core values define how we show up every day:
- Respect Others – We lead with respect, building trust and connection.
- Internally Driven – We are relentlessly compelled to accomplish our objectives.
- Collaborative Innovation – We create by listening, sharing, and working together.
- Client Success – We hold our client's mission as our own.
We believe in people who are accountable, curious, and motivated to make an impact that matters.
Our programs make a big impact—CareerSafe supports 2 million+ users per year, and K2Share delivers IT support on federal systems. You'll have the opportunity to make a difference in a mission-driven, small-business environment that values professional growth and work/life balance.
Your Impact
You'll lead the team that powers CareerSafe, serving more than 3 million users annually and growing, while overseeing cloud operations that support multiple Federal systems where reliability, security, and audit readiness matter.
This is a hands-on leadership seat. You are accountable for people, platforms, and outcomes.
Success in this role means:
- Lead and manage the DevOps team by setting clear priorities, coaching performance, and holding accountability across M365, Linux, Windows, database, and cloud functions. You directly manage experienced technical professionals and are accountable for their performance, growth, and engagement, building a culture of ownership and trust where expectations are clear and success is measurable through regular coaching, feedback, and performance conversations.
- Defining and enforcing DevSecOps standards that embed automation, security, and compliance into CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure provisioning, and operational workflows, aligned to NIST
- Operating and optimizing cloud infrastructure across AWS, GovCloud, and Azure, with accountability for uptime, scalability, disaster recovery readiness, patching, and cost optimization.
- Enabling application delivery by partnering closely with Application Development and Software Architecture to ensure tools, environments, and pipelines support fast, secure, and predictable releases.
- Serving as senior escalation during incidents by diagnosing and resolving complex Linux, database, and infrastructure issues, and ensuring "Power of Three" coverage across critical systems.
- This role is not about being the smartest person in the room. It's about building a team that can operate reliably without heroics.
- This role is deeply collaborative and highly accountable. You lead from the front, stay close to the technology, and make systems and people stronger over time.
Requirements
This role is a strong fit if most of the following are true:
- 10+ years of experience in DevOps, infrastructure, or cloud engineering, with 3+ years directly managing technical professionals, including performance reviews, prioritization, coaching, and accountability.
- 5–10+ years of hands-on cloud experience, where you personally designed, built, and operated infrastructure, not just overseen it.
- Demonstrated experience supporting regulated or compliance-driven environments such as NIST, CJIS, FedRAMP, or similar frameworks, including audit readiness and evidence generation.
- Deep expertise in automation and Infrastructure as Code practices using modern IaC frameworks and tooling to provision, harden, and operate cloud environments. (Terraform, CloudFormation, etc.)
- Strong technical depth in Linux system administration and databases such as MS-SQL, Oracle, PostgreSQL, or Aurora.
- Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines, monitoring and alerting (CloudWatch, Pingdom, Sentry), and vulnerability management (Tenable, SonarQube).
- Comfort serving as senior escalation during incidents, diagnosing and resolving complex infrastructure, Linux, or database issues under pressure.
- Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to translate strategy into clear priorities and measurable outcomes.
- Demonstrated experience developing other engineers through coaching, feedback, and delegation, resulting in measurable improvement in team performance or ownership.
- Willingness to hold people accountable through clear, direct conversations when priorities, commitments, or results are not on track.
- A proactive, resourceful, and internally driven mindset that thrives in a transparent, collaborative environment.
