SUMMARY OF PRIMARY FUNCTION
The Facility Maintenance Technician is responsible for the cleanliness of the facility and set up of the Head Start program, which includes carrying, loading/unloading materials. This role is also responsible for providing light maintenance services within the center grounds inside and outside of the facility. Helps recruit potential parents by providing information to them about the various program services and benefits offered to enroll children and families.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Center Operations- Set-Up and Assistance
Assists in the setting up of the Head Start Center.
Participates in orientation and training.
Loads, unloads, and transports center materials and discards as needed.
Ensures building safety requirements are met and notifies the proper individuals in the event that a violation is noted. This includes monthly drills, safety checks, and replacing equipment and batteries as needed.
Contacts contractors, obtains bids and schedules repairs at the facility with the approval of center management.
Center Operations- Custodial
Assists in the operation of the Head Start center.
Sweeps, mops, and washes floors in the facility.
Cleans materials in all areas of the facility.
Takes out garbage/recycling from the facility.
Strips and waxes floors as needed.
Shampoos carpets as needed.
Assists in the receiving of deliveries.
Brings necessary materials to classrooms and other building areas.
Maintains cleaning materials in a safe and secure manner.
Offers recommendations to the Head Start Center Manager regarding the smooth operation of the Head Start Center.
Center Operations- Maintenance
Cuts grass in the playgrounds and around the building including pulling weeds as needed.
Picks up garbage and recycling on the grounds daily.
Operates snow blower, shovels sidewalks and salts/ sands sidewalks and other areas as needed.
Changes light bulbs throughout the facility.
Cleans and changes filters as needed.
Repairs toys and equipment as needed.
Orders necessary janitorial and paper products.
Meets with janitorial service providers to ensure proper products are used.
Maintains outside downspouts.
Performs minor to medium complexity repairs requiring basic carpentry, building and plumbing skills.
Runs errands, picks up materials and supplies and other items as needed to perform the essential functions of the position utilizing personal vehicle.
Performs other general cleaning and maintenance duties as requested by Center Manager.
Boiler Maintenance
Perform frequent inspection checks and regular maintenance on the boiler system (valves, gauges, piping, and other equipment).
Inspect water, gas, and other fluid levels inside the boiler and related equipment and make adjustments as necessary.
Adjust valves and boiler controls as needed to control the amount of pressure in the system and keep the boiler system functioning safely.
Keep all boiler rooms, related facilities, and work areas clean and organized at all times.
Maintain and order necessary chemicals, etc.
Safety Compliance
Completes safety awareness training specific to the position before performing essential functions of the job, as new safety sensitive duties are assumed, annually, and as requested to ensure your safety and the safety of others.
Follows precautionary measures to prevent injury and illness resulting from exposure to hazardous substances, sharp and/or moving parts, wearing appropriate personal protective equipment.
Does not cut grass or trim landscaping with electric or motorized equipment when children and/or staff are in immediate area.
Must wear long pants and eyewear when operating or working around lawn mower, weed trimmer, and other equipment that may cause flying debris.
Have or obtain within 90 days of hire a First Aid and CPR Certification as well as maintain the certification during employment.
Miscellaneous
- Performs other duties, tasks and additional responsibilities as directed by supervisor.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Current Minnesota Second Class C low-pressure boiler license.
One year's experience operating and maintaining a low-pressure boiler system.
Must be at least 18 years of age.
One year's work experience in a maintenance, custodial or similar position.
Demonstrated knowledge of standard cleaning tools and substances.
Demonstrated knowledge of standard maintenance tools and equipment to perform duties and responsibilities.
Flexible schedule including days, nights and occasional weekends as needed to accommodate program needs.
Proof of valid driver's license and adequate insurance.
