What You’ll Be Doing:As a key player in our team, you will:
- Lead the Charge: Act as the electrical Subject Matter Expert (SME), providing technical leadership and guidance to both internal and external stakeholders, including equipment suppliers.
- Interface Management: Oversee the electrical interface with the power system, ensuring a best-for-programme approach is adopted.
- Own the Technology: Take technical ownership of key technology readiness projects, ensuring the end product meets maturity standards before platform integration.
- Support Facilities: Assist in the technical delivery of facility requirements necessary for technology readiness projects, including verification and validation activities.
- Risk Analysis: Conduct technical risk analysis and develop mitigation plans to support equipment delivery into the SSNA platform.
- Team Development: Contribute to the resilience planning for the SSNA Steam IDTs engineering team, ensuring succession planning for enduring SQEP capability.
- Governance: Independently govern, author, and approve technical artefacts.
Essential:
- Relevant 1st degree in Electrical Engineering (BSc (Hons) / BEng (Hons) / MEng (Hons)).
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) or working towards Chartership.
- Knowledge of integrating power electronic conversion equipment into power system designs (Inverters, rectifiers, Active Front End, filter interactions).
- Experience with key power system interface requirements (stability, quality, and protection coordination).
- Proven track record in developing and delivering power system/equipment level verification and validation plans.
- Understanding of the complete engineering life cycle in a complex environment.
Desirable:
- Relevant 2nd specialized degree in Electrical Engineering (power systems/power electronics/electrical machine design).
- Knowledge of permanent magnet rotating machines.
- Experience in Power System Analysis of AC and DC systems.
- Familiarity with power system control and instrumentation interface requirements.
- Submarine operator experience.

As the Electrical SME within the SIDT, you will play a crucial role in delivering innovative equipment to the SSNA platform, which is novel to the submarine environment. This unique position offers the chance to shape how we tackle challenges and develop verification and validation plans, ensuring timely equipment delivery and technology realization.
