What You’ll Be Doing:- Conducting radiological safety assessments to ensure compliance and safety.
- Assessing radiation damage risk to electronics, safeguarding vital systems.
- Developing and deploying cutting-edge radiation detection systems.
- Completing the systems engineering design of the secondary shielding system.
- Running and analyzing point kernel and Monte Carlo calculations.
- Providing technical advice on the impact of changes and defects across the entire vessel.
- Developing ALARP justifications to support design decisions.
- A degree in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Engineering, Nuclear Science, or a related field.
- Demonstrable knowledge and experience in radiation physics, nuclear engineering, or nuclear safety.
- Familiarity with radiological safety assessments and ALARP justifications.
- Experience with radiation transport methods (e.g., ATTILLA, MCBEND, MCNP).

Our team is at the forefront of designing and validating radiation shielding for the UK’s nuclear-powered submarine fleet. We engage across three submarine programs at various engineering lifecycle stages, designing new shields, assessing design changes, and conducting radiation metrology during commissioning. We also conduct radiological safety studies, design innovative radiation detectors, and develop capabilities in radiation damage to electronics. Relocation support packages are available for eligible candidates across all submarine roles.
