Position Summary:

The Orthopedic NP or PA will function as an advanced provider specializing in comprehensive orthopedic care with a strong emphasis on surgical management. This role supports a high-volume private orthopedic practice, assisting in operative procedures, performing pre- and post-operative patient care, and managing both acute and chronic musculoskeletal conditions. The provider will collaborate with orthopedic surgeons, clinical staff, and ancillary providers to deliver exceptional patient outcomes in outpatient clinic(s), ambulatory surgery centers, and hospital settings in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

Professionally and effectively communicates with individuals at all levels of the organization. Maintains a professional and collaborative relationship with partner hospital(s), ambulatory surgery center(s), vendors, consultants, and referral sources.

Working Conditions:

Education, Certification, and Experience

  • NP: Master's or Doctoral degree in Nursing: Required – Orthopedic experience: Preferred
  • PA: Master's degree from an accredited Physician Assistant program: Required – Orthopedic experience: Preferred
  • Current, unrestricted Tennessee state licensure as NP or PA
  • National certification (ANCC/AANP) or (NCCPA)
  • DEA registration with prescriptive authority
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS): Required
  • Experienced in the use of electronic health records: Required
  • Minimum of 2+ years of orthopedic experience: preferred, surgical orthopedic experience: Strongly Preferred
  • Experience working in outpatient and ambulatory surgery center environments: Required

Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong clinical assessment and musculoskeletal diagnostic skills

  • Proficiency with electronic medical records (EMR) and orthopedic documentation standards
  • Conducted detailed musculoskeletal history and physician exams
  • Conduct detailed musculoskeletal history and physical examinations
  • Assess, diagnose, and treat patients with orthopedic conditions including trauma, sports injuries, degenerative joint disease, and post-operative issues
  • Assist in orthopedic surgeries (first assist) when credentialed, including joint replacements, fracture fixations, arthroscopy, and reconstructions
  • Perform in-office procedural interventions such as joint injections, aspiration, casting, splinting, wound care, and fracture management
  • Order, interpret, and follow up on diagnostic imaging and laboratory studies
  • Collaborate with surgeons to co-manage patients from initial consultation through surgical clearance, operative care, and rehabilitation
  • Manage post-operative follow-ups in clinic and adjust treatment plans based on healing progression or complications

Patient Management & Care Coordination

  • Develop individualized evidence-based treatment plans in coordination with supervising surgeons
  • Provide patient and family education on surgical procedures, recovery expectations, activity modifications, pain management, and preventive care
  • Coordinate care with physical therapists, occupational therapists, pain management specialists, and other referrals
  • Facilitate efficient patient throughput and optimize clinical workflow
  • Maintain timely and accurate documentation in the electronic health record (EHR) for all patient encounters, procedures, and communications
  • Prescribe medications, durable medical equipment, and therapy plans within scope of practice and Tennessee state regulations
  • Adheres to privacy, billing, quality, compliance, and safety standards
  • Participate in quality improvement, patient satisfaction initiatives, and practice-specific performance metrics
