What You’ll Be Doing:

As a Principal Structural Engineer, you will play a crucial role in the design and analysis of complex steel structures that support submarine builds. Your expertise will help shape the future of our engineering projects!

  • Design & Analysis: Utilize Eurocodes, British Standards, and BAE standards to analyze and design intricate steel structures.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Apply your understanding of regulations beyond BAE Systems, including LOLER, codes of compliance, and weld specifications.
  • Technical Proficiency: Interpret and utilize computer-based analytical techniques, including finite element analysis and CAD modeling (Abaqus, S-Frame).
  • Support Manufacturing: Assist in the manufacturing, assembly, lifting, handling, and installation processes of submarine structures, modules, and components.
  • Concept Development: Contribute to the production of concept drawings, layouts, and other technical outputs, ensuring they meet contractual requirements and deadlines.
  • Quality Assurance: Take responsibility for approvals, checking analyses, and outputs to ensure the highest standards.
Your Skills and Experiences:
  • Educational Background: Engineering Degree (BEng/MEng) or equivalent experience.
  • Professional Status: Chartered Engineer (CEng) or Incorporated Engineer (IEng) nearing CEng status.
  • Structural Expertise: Proven experience in structural steel analysis and design.
  • Standards Knowledge: Fully conversant with Eurocodes and British Standards.
  • Design Review Skills: Competent in reviewing and checking design outputs.
  • Mechanical Understanding: Good grasp of mechanical engineering, structural steelwork, and lifting handling (LOLER).
  • Software Proficiency: Working knowledge of ABAQUS, S-Frame, MathCAD, and Excel.
  • Production Experience: Previous experience in a production environment, particularly in marine production, is advantageous.

About the Specialist Structures Department:

As a Principal Engineer, you will collaborate with a dynamic team of 14 professionals across various seniority levels. Together, you will conduct engineering assessments to support the build process, ensuring the production of safety-critical equipment. We also provide relocation support packages for eligible candidates across all Submarine roles.
