Job Description TITLE: Senior Network EngineerLOCATION: Emeryville, CAPOSITION: Full time Client X, a leader in synthetic biology is seeking a well experienced senior network engineer to join our IT infrastructure team in a very fast paced, growth company. Client X has a large data and application footprint in multiple geographies and is continuing to see rapid growth. The right candidate will express a keen interest in developing data communications and network designs to help Client X scale and grow with demand using cutting edge designs and topology. The engineer will oversee all aspects of data communications between on-premises, SaaS and public cloud technologies utilizing a diverse set of tools to maintain operational stability, secure transmission and agility of our data flow. We are looking for a motivated, independent engineer who can learn technologies quickly, and who can translate needs across teams - including communicating with stakeholders who are not experts in software infrastructure. This position offers flexibility to design new systems from the ground up - and to have a real impact on Client Xs' ability to deliver synthetic organisms. Responsibilities:
* This role is a standard network engineering role with concentration on LAN/WAN and Security; emphasis on Cisco and cloud. * Assess, design, implement, troubleshoot, and document Cisco networks and related systems. * Cisco switch, router and firewall maintenance, upgrades, configuration, and deployment. * Develop both high-level and detailed implementation and test plans for Cisco technologies related to various types of environments. * Work with the infosec team to design and develop secure network architectures. * Develop, implement, and maintain HA/DR for all data circuits and paths. * Develop documentation as it relates to the necessary requirements, and assist with or develop Client X's technology solutions. * Write assessment and design reports, and present them to Director of Technology. * Provide knowledge transfer and informal training to Technology Group.
Qualifications:
* Active CCNP or higher-level certification in Routing and Switching is *strongly* preferred, but SME level knowledge is essential with or without the CCNP * Experience with Cisco VoIP, a huge plus * LAN/WAN design experience desired * Working knowledge of standard OSI layer protocols * Skills in one or more of the following areas a plus: Cisco Data center technologies, Network security (Firewall, VPN, etc.), Cisco ISE, Cisco WLAN * Experience with Cisco ASA Firewalls and other Datacenter Technologies * Experience with public cloud-based networking technologies (AWS, GCP, Azure, etc.) * Certifications in multiple technology areas are a significant plus * VPN/IPSEC and other tunneling protocol experience * Strong consultative skill set to include communications with varying levels of customer personnel as well as the ability to identify and help close new opportunities within existing clients * SDWAN with design and deployment experience * Must be able to work with practice lead to coordinate scheduling to meet customer needs, sometimes juggling multiple projects at one time * Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field - advanced degree or professional certifications a plus * 6+ year of experience leading, designing, building and operating large hybrid cloud infrastructure; or equivalent combination of post-bachelor's education and experience
